This nighttime specialty animal hunt takes place in the Soutpansberg region of the Limpopo Province in South Africa.
A hunt typically takes place on a variety of concessions, based on the species that are targeted.
All hunting areas are close to the main lodge.

Many South African outfitters bring their clients here due to our expertise in hunting these nocturnal animals.
We maintain waste piles of remains from the trophies our plains game hunting operation generates. So we have a regular supply of bait to keep these animals visiting our bait stations at night.
Solar-powered red or green lights are kept at the waste piles so the animals are acclimated to feeding under the lights.
These lightings are adequate for shooting with either a rifle or bow.
Additionally, trail cameras are set up on all our bait stations to help pattern the animals utilizing each bait station.
Many of these cameras are linked to our cell phones, so a determination can be made on which location to hunt without visiting or disturbing the site.

These nighttime hunting methods make Limpopo Big Game Safaris one of the most technologically advanced nighttime specialty operator in Southern Africa!

Sitting on a bait pile at night is exciting!

You never know what will come in.
There are a lot of Brown Hyena, Honey Badgers, Bushpig, Civet and Genet in the area.
Spotlighting at night is also a method that we use extensively and is highly effective for taking African Wild Cat, Black Back Jackal, African Civet, Caracal and Serval.
Should you wish to also hunt during the daytime, other animals are available on request.

.

Must be a great 'different' hunt. Help me on one point - I thought that white tail mongoose and genet are classified as rodents and don't need a permit but you have listed permit fees ? Have they changed the permits or did I get it wrong ?

I did a hunt with Bossie in 2017 and had a great time. We hunted daytime and at night. During the night-time hunts I got civet, honey badger, and duiker. It was lots of fun. Later I bought a scope with a red dot at the center of the crosshairs. It would have been nice to have when I was hunting with Bossie.

Good day Charlie

White Tail Mongoose and Genet are classified as Rodent or "game" as referred to in the LEMA law of South Africa.

In a nutshell, if the animal is killed by the owner of the land or family member the owner may grant permission without a permit.

(Only a “family member” is allowed to shoot, hunt or kill without a permit. “family member” in relation to an owner of land, means the parent, spouse, child, step-child, foster-child, grandchild, adopted child, son-in-law or daughter-in-law of the owner of land)

For trophy hunting by anyone else and exportation purposes, a permit has to be applied for.

I hope this helps.

Bossie, it was a great hunt. I forgot to mention, but for anyone dong this this hunt take along a fleece jacket or something quiet. It can get cold sitting in the blind at night. I took a Gore-Tex jacket that made a crinkling noise when I moved. Scared off the first honey badger twice on the first night. The lodge had a fleece jacket I used the next night and we got him.
