Hi Chaps
I am looking for a group to take up the challenge and come down to the Eastern Cape to Hunt for Bushbuck in the rugged coastal areas around the Kei River.

This hunt is ideal for a group of friends or a group of first time hunters to Africa who want to cut their teeth without breaking the bank on the first hunt. I figured AR was as good a place as any to get a bunch of friends together.
We have reduced the day rates by half but require at least 4 people to make it viable.

The first stage of the hunt will be conducted over hounds and is essentially a driven hunt with hounds and beaters pushing buck towards the hunters stations out of the steep sided rugged valleys. Shots are typically 200m across valleys or under 30m if you stand at the head of the valley where the buck cross over. Expectations are to take between 2-5 Bushbuck Rams on each property. That is however dependent on your shooting ability.

The real beauty of this style of bushbuck hunting is knowing that it has been done this way for nearly 200 years by the families of the English settlers who came over in 1820. My family history is richly entrenched with the sport of hunting and as such it is very close to my heart.
To hear the cry of the first hound as they start to move up the valleys and the chant of the beaters as they move up in a line spanning the valley. Lifts the hackles on my neck just thinking about it.

You will require a Rifle, and a shotgun if you have one, dependent on where we station you.

We will hunt 2 days in this manner in the Eastern Cape.

The hunt will then move up to Natal where we will hunt Bushpig for 2 days getting up close in the Cane. This hunt is completely the opposite of the Bushbuck and is run in front a pack of specialist scent hounds that will track a pig, bay it and then you get to shoot. Opportunistic shots are always an option and very likely to be available with a bigger group of guys to cover all the exits. For a feel of what this sort of hunt is about read my report - Bushpig Over Hounds

In addition to the Bushbuck and Bushpig we have Trophy Common Reedbuck and Mountain Reedbuck available as well as excellent Kudu and Nyala.
The last day of the hunt will be spent shooting Ducks and geese. The option is there to go after other game in the area on the last day if you prefer.

The Group:

What we require is 4-8 Fun loving action shooting types who enjoy burning powder.
You will need a Rifle of at least .308 ballistics and a shotgun if you like. Big bores are welcome for the pigs. Anyone who wants can borrow my 458 if they feel the urge Big Grin

The Hunt:

7 Days total
5 Hunting Days

Day rate USD 250/hunter/day

Trophy Fees:

Bushbuck - USD 900
Bushpig - USD 1650
Common Reedbuck - USD 1500
Mountain Reedbuck - USD 900

Accommodation will be tented in the Eastern Cape and Guest Lodges in KZN.
Food will be ample and include at least one game meat dish each night.
We will provide daily laundry service so pack light with no more than 3 sets of hunting clothes.

You can expect to take good representative trophies with the real chance of taking some serious trophy rams.
As a side note, the Reedbuck Populations at our base in Natal are some of the best in the country. The record on my home farm is 18,5 inches. Average trophy buck are over 15,5 inches.
Bushpig can range between 70 and 130kg
Mountain Reedbuck are top quality and Rowland ward is easily attained.

Hey John
Plenty of fun to be had.
It will be a very relaxed hunt.
Its really the kind of hunting we do here for our own sport and is very sociable.
Shots are challenging on the bushbuck as you will be shooting across a valley more often than not.

The Reedbuck are all walk and stalk so for the hunters who have never stalked in open terrain it is quite an eye opener.

Your hunt club would be a great group to come over for this type of hunt. Its the African version of what you guys are doing with your packs in the states.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the hunt format is very flexible so if you had a few guys who wanted to go and take on a 1x1 safari off the back of the group hunt we can arrange it.
There are plenty of places around where you could take a Kudu, Nyala, Warthog, Impala combo with an extra 3 days of hunting.

We also have Buffalo available to anyone wanting some DG experience and there is the option to go after 2 of the Mini 10.
This will however all be as add ons to the group hunt and will take a few extra days.

Chat soon
Ian
