This is an opportunity to hunt remote Sitkinak Island in the Gulf of Alaska. Sitkinak Island is located south of famous Kodiak Island. There are no permanent residents on the island besides one family-run ranching outfit, whom we work closely with. Although known for numerous and large trophy deer, the logistics and remote aspect of Sitkinak are daunting for many to contemplate. I have been providing hunting and transportation service in the Kodiak and Pacific region of Alaska for over 15 years. As a local Kodiak resident, I am well aquatinted with the difficult logistics and weather of the area and have the equipment and expertise to provide a quality service here. Trips are week long, fully guided hunts for trophy Sitka black-tail deer. Additional bonus species that may be hunted are red, silver and cross fox and world-class ptarmigan wing-shooting. Sitka black-tail deer (Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis) is a small subspecies of mule deer native to southeast Alaska and British Colombia rain forests. Introduced to an island in the Kodiak Archipelago in the 1920s, they have since spread to nearly all of the adjoining islands and thrived. The wind-swept plains of southern Kodiak and Sitkinak are especially good for these deer as winter feed is abundant, keeping winter mortality to a minimum. These attractive deer feature a distinctive double white throat patch. 3x3 and 4x4 are the most common. Large bucks rarely score over 110 B&C. Sitkinak produces record book quality deer every year. Meat is excellent, many consider the Sitka deer from the Kodiak Archipelago to be the best eating deer anywhere. Hunts are strictly fair chase. We often have the use of ATVs for transportation, but hunting is conducted on foot in the hills and valleys that strongly resemble the Scottish Highlands, made even more so by the presence of shaggy, free-ranging cattle. Sitkinak is an excellent area for elite bow hunters looking for a challenging area to hunt without the added challenge of worrying about bears! There are no bears on the island, making hunting and meat care less stressful than on the main Kodiak Island, or most of Alaska for that matter. Because of the remote location hunting pressure is very low. Blaze orange or other hunting colors are completely unnecessary, though they are recommended for bird shooting if there is more than one in your party. Hunting can often be quite good with little physical effort, but as with most things in life you generally get out what you put in. Trophy bucks tend to stay high and be more wary than younger deer and usually require more effort. Would we want it any other way? Dates - OPENINGS STILL AVAILABLE NOVEMBER 14.
