In Wayne's own words: Cat success will be exceptional. They are basically un-hunted here. This area was only hunted for elephant last year – it is going to be an absolute gem. It was until very recently only a photographic area. The Mount Mosale Safari concession lies 250km east of Lichinga in Niassa Province, in the far north of Mozambique. This is a wild untamed part of Africa, virtually unchanged since the grand old days of Mozambican Safaris in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The area consists of Miombo forest, interspersed with open grassy meadows, alluvial flood plains, and thick riverine bush along the major rivers. Rugged granite hills mark the western boundary. The Lugenda River cuts through the concession flowing west to east. The safari camp is situated on the southern bank of the Lugenda, in a picturesque setting amongst giant shady evergreens. The camp is classic east African luxury tents on a concrete base, with en suite ablutions. The lounge/dining area is concrete under thatch, and faces directly on to the river. This unspoiled wilderness area is home to elephant, (the Niassa Province is well known for its giant tuskers) buffalo, lion, leopard, and numerous plains game species including the majestic sable antelope and shy kudu. This area is known for its large herds of Livingstone eland. The Lugenda has good numbers of hippopotamus and several large old crocodile. This concession is a true big game area where the tranquility around the campfire is often broken by the trumpeting of elephant or the deep lowing calls of the lion. Fortunately there are commercial flights into Lichinga, so expensive charter flights are not necessary. The camp is only a two and a half hour drive from Lichinga. Leopard can be imported into the States from Mozambique. If anyone is looking for Lion, please enquire as its possible that one might be available as well over here for 2013. Folks, I have just spoken to Wayne and he has confirmed that you can also take a Sable on this hunt for trophy fee of $4500. NO increase in daily rate. I would say this is a great offer with a top PH. Thanks for looking. Arjun

In the middle of Into the Thorns now. I would love to hunt with Wayne someday based on what I've read thus far. He's killed some extraordinarily big cats. I'm hunting leopard in Tanz in October. No illusions for the 200 lb. cats he describes in the Matobo hills. How are leopards hunted in Moz.? Daytime only/lights? And, what is a reasonable male?

Up in the north they are hunted both at night and day but within the reserves, daytime only. The area noted in this post is good Leopard country (particularly late in the season) and can be hunted at night. leopard size in Northern Moz is not dissimilar to that of the Zambezi Leopards sizes.

In this area you can hunt them at night as well, i.e. with the aid of a light from the blind. But its more than likely that you will shoot yours during daylight hours as leopards and lions have not been hunted here at all.Given that there has been no leopard shot here in many years there are bound to be some big old males around. Thanks, Arjun

Stomper, I have no idea how long it would take to drive from Jumbos. Wayne's camp is situated about 3 hours drive east of Lichinga. The best way to get here is to fly commercial flight (fri, sat and sunday only) to Lichinga where you will be met and driven to camp. Let me know if you need anymore info. Thanks, Arjun

Have done this drive a couple times. If I remember correctly about seven hours to the Lugenda bridge east of Lichinga plus however long to get to their camp with the first two or three from Jumbos camp being through beautiful country. This part of the country can be quite cool in temperature with Lichinga situated on top of a high plateau and can be very cold at night.
