MAINE MOOSE HUNTS 2020 NO DRAW 95% SUCCESS

Folks,

My ex BIL who is a full time Maine guide, skilled woodsman and all around decent human being had 4 Maine moose permits to sell for 2020 and I am helping him market them. He still has 2 permits available and if 2 hunters book together we can discount the price.

These Maine moose hunts are offered in an unusual way in that if a hunter has a moose permit he or she can bring along a sub permitee and either hunter can shoot the moose. There is no additional cost for the sub permitee. Even if the sub permitee has no interest in shooting they can come along for the whole experience as an observer for no additional cost.

Any weapon is legal for the hunt and this is an ideal for a bow hunter as witnessed by the last attached picture. The area is thick forest, the moose will be responding to the call and encounters are often at very close range.

Starting last year the State of Maine made 50 moose permits available to owners of "Sporting Camps" in Maine
(56 FOR 2020) through a lottery thus eliminating the draw for hunters buying these permits. Many of these camps do not routinely offer hunting at all so Dave was able to negotiate a deal with the camps allowing him to have 4 Maine moose permits and subsequently the hunts to sell outright.

Below is Dave's very detailed description of the the hunt offer.

Contact me anytime if you have further questions or you'd like to book this unique opportunity.

An extensive reference list is available upon request.

Guided and Outfitted Moose Hunts

Hunt Maine Moose, 95% Success Rate

These peak moose rut hunts are available September 28-Oct. 3rd, Mon.-Sat. in Maine’s best Northern Wildlife Management Districts. There are only 50 of these special lodge tag hunts available state wide and I am working with 4 lodges on these hunts. Others who want to hunt moose here in Maine have to wait for the June draw with the odds being very slim for nonresidents and next to impossible for 2 hunters to draw for the same unit and same week! Northern WMDs have high concentrations of moose and we know the districts well. Expect opportunities on bulls 40”-50” wide, with bulls going 55” and higher. Much like turkey and elk, moose can be very susceptible to calling. What a thrill to interact with a trophy bull moose as it responds to the call. A heart pounding experience as a thousand-pound moose closes in on you thinking you are a cow moose in heat, a bull that’s just drawn away his cow, or another bull moose intruding on his territory. With the ability to quarter and pack out your moose, we're able to get on foot to spot n stalk, placing you in the absolute best moose country! I have personally guided more than 30 moose hunts with over 95% success rate. With the hunt being a little later this season, if you tag out early, we have phenomenal grouse hunting and the season is open during this hunt.

Eligibility:

· Must not have won a Maine moose permit over the past 3 seasons (2017, 2018, 2019).

· Minimum age is 10 for the hunter, sub-permittee and alt sub-permittee in order to hunt Maine moose

· Big Game Hunting License Required $115

· Hunters Safety- All applicants ages 16 and older must comply with Maine hunter safety law before a hunting license can be issued.

Comfortable Remote Wall Tent Camps

If you have ever stayed in a remote tent hunt in grizzly or brown bear country, you’ll appreciate wall tent hunting in Maine. You’ll sleep very well knowing there is zero issues with bears in camp and while on the hunt. These hunts will take place at a drive to camp in the north Maine Woods, includes top-notch equipment, fantastic meals, dedicated guides, and experienced camp cooks. You will be amazingly comfortable. The main wall tent serves as a community area for meals and meeting. Private sleep tents for your party of 2-3 persons are spacious 12' x 12' Cabela's Alaknak Ultimate Outfitter tents complete with heavy duty cots, thick therm-a-rest style sleeping pads, carpet flooring, battery lantern, table and chairs and a wood stove with a good supply of seasoned hardwood tinder and cedar kindling. The outhouse is very sturdy and cleaned daily. Showers are available with hot water on demand providing an uncommon level of comfort in a remote Maine moose camp.

Meals

Moose hunting involves long days. We'll be up well before day light and return after dark. The last thing you'll want to worry about is meals. Our dedicated camp cooks will have the coffee on and breakfast hot and ready to serve when you arise, and a hardy supper to sit down to shortly after returning from a long day's hunt. Lunches can be served back at camp or packed and sent along to have in the field. We can accommodate for special dietary needs. You’ll be very surprised at how well you will eat at camp!

Having you moose butchered locally? We can recommend local shops that do a great job. Turnaround time is 48-72 hours. The cost ranges $500-$600 to cut up, package and freeze a moose. You are welcome to come back to camp while your moose is being butchered, we can check on the status of the moose as I’ll have a satellite phone in camp. Getting There

For those driving to camp, plan on arriving in Camp Sunday afternoon at 2PM with the option to stay over Saturday night if the hunt goes all six days. Note, when harvesting a moose prior to Saturday, we (camp cooks and guides) will break down and pack up camp on Saturday. Getting there. It’s about a 2.5 hour drive from Bangor to Ashland and another 3 hours 80 miles from Ashland to camp over mostly good dirt roads. You’ll want to bring 2 good spare tires, an extra can of gas and proper tools to change a tire. I’ll send detailed driving directions to our meeting place. Another option is to drive to Presque Isle (a little over 3 hours from Bangor), stay the night at the Hampden Inn, then plan on 3.5 hours from there to our meeting place on Sunday. Transportation, you can drive right to camp and detailed driving directions will be sent well before your hunt. For those that are flying into Presque isle, we recommend staying overnight at the Hampton Inn before and after your hunt. Your guide will come and pick you up and bring you to camp

Q & A:

No more than 4 hunting parties in camp at one time.
Where will the Remote Camp be located? We’ll be in WMD 1. We won’t book hunts that require an hour’s drive on either end of your day to get to and from your WMD.
Who will be guiding my moose hunt? Dave or another reputable Maine hunting guide that has the hunting experience and skills to make your moose hunt a success.
Your guide will have a shooting stick, moose call and range finder.
Communication & Safety: We’ll have a satellite phone, Garmin 2-way satellite communicator, guides and the camp cooks will have 2-way radios. We carry a well stalked first aid kit in the truck on the hunt.
What can I use for a weapon? You can use a bow, muzzle loader or rifle. When using a rifle, choose one you are most comfortable with, 270, 308, 3006, 7mm, 300-win mag are all good calibers. Shot placement is probably more important. During the September season, we often take moose at 15 to 25 yards as they are very susceptible to the call but be prepared for a shot out to 200 yards just in case! I recommend 180 or 200 grain bullets. Trophy Grade Partion or Core-Lokt work well. We can site in your gun Sunday afternoon and I’ll have shooting sticks and targets set up for you.
When tagging out early? You can hunt for grouse and or be another set of eyes and ears in the field for other hunting parties in camp that have not tagged out.
NO Pets in camp
Flying into Presque Isle? We recommend staying over at the Hampden Inn in Presque Isle on Saturday night and the night prior to flying out. The fee is $250.00 round trip on each end of your hunt and to take your moose to a local butcher if it happens early in the week and you return to camp.
Having your moose mounted? We can recommend options where you can drop off your rack and cape.

As your hunting dates approach, if driving, we’ll send detailed driving directions of when and where to meet up with us, then follow us to camp. We look forward to assisting you on a great hunt! Call, message or email me anytime with questions you may have.
