Hi Guys

I would like to aid a friend who's young boy is very sick it would be fantastic if the good people on AR would be so kind as to bid on this hunt if you find it appealing it is for a very worthy cause please view details below:

Lian Verwey is two and a half years old and one of the most unique children in the world as he was recently diagnosed with 3q13 Deletion Syndrome – Lian is the only registered person with this syndrome in South Africa.
A 3q13 deletion is a genetic condition that occurs when there is a small piece of genetic material (DNA) missing from one of the 46 chromosomes – chromosome 3.

The genetic change usually affects development, and sometimes health and behaviour as well. But how much it affects individuals, and the ways in which it affects them can vary a lot.

Lian was born on 29 December 2014 into a family consisting of his parents, Ryno and Mandy, as well as his siblings Ryno Jnr and Mieke.

It was a very traumatic day as he was born with a hole in his heart, which caused that no blood was circulated to his lungs. He spent most of January 2015 in intensive care.

It was discovered during the next few months that he did not produce enough Myelin, which is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system. Lian was able to sit unaided at 11 months, but at 13 months he had a major setback and needed assistance with sitting.

So many problems followed, including respiratory difficulty, muscle weakness and incoordination, poor muscle tone, swollen kidneys, skin eczema, bad indigestion and the list continues… After an unthinkable amount of tests and doctor appointments, Lian was only diagnosed with the syndrome early in 2017.

The diagnosis was an enormous breakthrough as we now known what we are dealing with and which challenges to expect in future.
Lian will have special needs for his entire life and the medical aid offers little to no support.

This is placing his family on severe financial strain.

We would like to share with you what his needs are, hoping you will reach out to Lian and offer some support in any way possible.
• Lian needs quarterly Stem cell therapy which is very expensive, but shows excellent results.
• He blooms after having Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy.

For optimal results Lian needs this twice a month.
• He suffers from Hydro nephrosis - a condition where both his kidneys are swollen as a result of a build-up of urine inside them. He needs a horribly expensive scan called a VCUG to determine the extent of the problem.
• He needs special milk, very special milk that is imported from the US.
• He suffers from skin eczema and can really do with another visit to a Dermatologist as the current ointments and treatments offer little relief and not long lasting at all.
• He has undergone BDA (Biomechanical Developmental Approach) therapy. Therapists teach parents specifically designed techniques to assist with severe developmental impairments. It works wonders, but the sessions and equipment comes at a cost.

Lian has joined weekly classes to assist with things normal children do without thinking.

The sensory integration (SI) therapy uses play activities to change how the brain reacts to touch, sound, sight and movement.

• Due to the fact that Lian is growing older and bigger and he is not able to walk, specialised equipment such as a special gait trainer, car chair, stroller, etc. is becoming a reality. Ryno and Mandy moves him where ever he has to be but soon he will be too heavy to carry.
Even though Lian is confronted with this rare and challenging syndrome, he is unbelievably brave and is fighting every day to get through the many challenges.

I contacted Louis regarding this hunt, a little late unfortunately, but he was very generous in putting together a similar hunt for me and a low budget PG hunt for my hunting buddy. We spent a week with Louis and his family on their property a stone's throw from the Botswana border. It took some doing getting there but it was worth while.

The camp is more than adequate, with 4 chalets, a bar/TV lounge, and a dining room. The hot water was hot, the beds extremely comfortable, and the food was excellent home-cooking by his assistant Marissa who is a trained chef, with plenty of meat of various species served nightly. I can recommend the apple crumble. The only thing missing was a hot tub! (Joking)

Louis is a little more worldly than most RSA PHs, good company, and a solid family man. He does his own tracking, something you don't often see in that part of the world. But when the going gets tough he calls in his driver/tracker Lucky, who is a preacher and speaks 8 languages, to assist.

Like many entrepreneurial South African landowners, Louis has invested in breeding rare variants on his property. We saw golden wildebeest, black impala, and copper springbuck both in his breeding camp and in the hunting area. The price of these variants has come down substantially in the last few years due to too many breeders having too much success, so if you want a Springbok "Grand Slam" now is the time to do it.

Louis hunts on his own property as well as a couple of nearby (within 15 minutes) properties.

Other species that have come down in price are Sable (luckily for me) and Roan. I have never seen as many Roan as I saw on this trip. There were more Roan than Wildebeest on one of the properties we hunted.

There are also some very large sunflower farms in the area and if you hit the harvest at the right time, you can shoot a case of ammo before tea time. June is the best month, the exact timing of the harvest depends on the rainfall that year. We were a week or two early but we still enjoyed a day of dove shooting with the occasional sand grouse and rock pigeon in the mix.

I took a very nice Sable (44 longest horn) with a Marlin 336 in 375 JDJ. I converted this rifle myself and used a Weaver V4.5 scope I originally purchased in RSA in my long lost youth. I have hung onto it and was happy to take it back "home" for a hunt. I also took one of my own "Bad Boy" Shot & Ball guns (a 20ga regulated for Brennekes) and absolutely clobbered an impala ram with it. The rest of the time I took a back seat to my buddy who was on his first Africa trip.

Buddy took a very nice BWB bull (too nice for a cull but Louis was gracious), a warthog, a decent impala, a gemsbok and lost a zebra that we think was a brisket hit.

Other species we saw frequently were springbuck, giraffe, nyala, waterbuck, kudu and even a buffalo.

This is shaping up to be another dry year so help Louis out and have yourself some good hunting!
