I thought Botswana has now curtailed or completely prohibited exports of trophies ...

Privateland plainsgame hunting is still going strong and legal. Bots just shut down the gov and communal areas and most Elephant and all cat hunting.

Plainsgame still going strong though!

I read somewhere that all exports of wild animals from Bots were now banned ... maybe this only applies to live animals and meat. What about raw trophies?

So....Russ. You book safaris, don't you? And you really don't know the answer to your own question? Really?

You've taken two pokes at Kanana, an outfit recently held in quite high regard. Begs the question. Why?

I have trophies sitting at transfer agent in Maun awaiting shipment.

I am pretty, actually very sure, you can ship trophies from Botswana.

Kanana and Jason Bridger are a top notch outfit.

Yes

I shot a lot of stuff on cull when I was hunting the regular package.

Next time (hopefully 2015) when I go to Kanana I will make sure i take 11 pounds of ammo with me and bullets so Jason can reload.

Best way to get in touch email or get on Jason's whatsapp - not sure how often he checks AR.

Also if anyone wants to split a 2 by 1 I may be game.

Thanks,

Mike

If this is true, it is probably due to lack of business due to Ebola, the Obama economy...

Hope there are not more to follow suit.

I spoke to Jason briefly via WhatsApp.

He is going to be hunting at Tholo.

The Kanana ranch is up for sale. The decision to hunt at Tholo was to insure that hunters did not have their hunts interrupted by a sale process on the ranch.

Given the game on the ranch - I expect there will be opportunities to hunt it in 2015.

Will post any more info as I find out.

I was for a second tempted to bid for Kanana and then reality struck me. I am incompetent at running a 100K acre ranch.

Hi All,

The rumors are true I’m afraid. The Directors of Kanana have decided to sell and as inferred above in the excerpt from the Directors email, we have decided not to operate next year in case of a quick sale and handover.

My apologies for not letting everyone know sooner but our first obligation was to inform our booking agents and our clients that had booked with us for 2015 and offer them the option of moving their booked Safaris with us to Tholo Safaris. (As an aside, it is amazing how small, close knit and how quickly information spreads within the hunting fraternity, a definite plus in most circumstances.)

Personally I will be marketing and hunting for Tholo Safaris, an outstanding operation that the Eaton family have owned and operated for many, many years. For some more information about Tholo Safaris please visit www.tholosafarisbotswana.com , I implore anybody that was considering hunting at Kanana in the future to please consider coming to hunt with us at Tholo! We also have a few other exciting developments in the pipeline that I will disclose as soon as the details have been finalized, keep an eye on this space

For the next couple of months as we wind things down my email will remain the same, Jason@kanan.info but thereafter it will be easier to email me at jbbridger@gmail.com for the interim. My cell number will remain +26772302882 for any body that would like to call or message.

I will be at the Dallas Safari Club Convention, Houston Safari Club Convention and at the SCI Convention in Jan/Feb if anybody would like to meet up!

I'm sure I see some of you at the AR get together as well. My US number is 214-499-8586 .

To those of you that hunted with us at Kanana, I wish to thank you sincerely for all the support and for all the great memories we forged at Kanana and I certainly hope we get to create some new exciting ones, albeit at a different venue!

Yours in hunting

Jason

p.s. Just to quash any rumours before they start, the decision to sell certainly wasn't due to lack of business.

I had some of my best hunting in the cattle part of Kanana. They have some monster kudu in the cattle part.

If there is water and no lions there will be plenty of game at Kanana - cattle or no cattle.

Looking forward to it Ben and Mike!

Safari2 - We certainly hope so, the sad reality is that most of the farms in this area that have changed hands over the last few years have converted to cattle and removed all the game. The government here, despite all their concerns re wildlife numbers and closing the ele hunting are doing absolutely bugger all to encourage game ranching within Botswana.

This was sad news.
We hoped to go hunting at Kanana for up to 3 weeks with 2 adults and 3-4 children all hunting a few years from now.

I guess we have to wait and see what happens and maybe see what Tholo Safaris has to offer.
