While there are not accurate estimates of the number of individuals in the wild, Israel estimated there to be only 3,100 endangered gazelles in their country.[5] Less than 3,000 mountain gazelles are left within their natural range. The Arabian sand gazelle (Gazella marica, formerly Gazella subgutturosa marica) or reem (Arabic: ريم)[2] is a species of gazelle native to the Syrian and Arabian Deserts. Today it survives in the wild in small, isolated populations in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and southeastern Turkey. Small numbers may also be present in Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, and Syria. The total population of wild sand gazelles is thought to be less than 3,000. In 1986, the Arabian oryx was classified as endangered on the IUCN Red List, and in 2011, it was the first animal to revert to vulnerable status after previously being listed as extinct in the wild. It is listed in CITES Appendix I. In 2011, populations were estimated at over 1,000 individuals in the wild, and 6,000–7,000 individuals in captivity worldwide. Hi Mark, Just added that clause Not importable in to the US! No fun to live here at times . But would still be a different vacation. Eat some great Arabic food, visit the gold souks, stay in nice hotels before and after your hunt, cool night clubs, even cooler russian....... etc etc. | |||
