A good friend of mine from Texas who is a bow hunter by preference used the term: “Rats with Horns” – referring to the smaller antelope like Klipspringer and Steenbok…

During COVID back in 2020, there was not anything going on hunting-wise here on our ranch so, to keep my staff and myself busy (and out of trouble), I built a blind here on Sabrisa Ranch at a manmade waterhole (built earlier by myself and staff) up in the mountains.




Once construction was finished, I spent several hours in the blind to see what would come in and was quite surprised by the number of Mountain Reedbuck and Klipspringer that visited that waterhole. Groups of up to 14 Mountain Reedbuck would come in at a time and several different pairs / family groups of Klipspringer as well as Kudu, Gemsbok, Giraffe, Wildebeest and others.

Up to this point, all the Klipspringer and Mountain Reedbuck hunted on our ranch, were rifle hunted via spot and stalk and it occurred to me that there just might be a niche market. Many Klipspringer and Mountain Reedbuck have been taken in Africa – but not that many with bow and arrow.

If hunting an animal – slightly bigger than a cane rat at up to 40 yards with a sharp stick, propelled forward by a taughtened piece of string is your cup of tea, and if you don’t mind spending several hours in a blind (a better word for “jail cell”), waiting for your quarry to come in then this offer might well be for you…

I hunted with Chris in 2022 and he is a top notch operator. In fact I did spend a full day overlooking that exact waterhole but I was sitting inside an empty water barrel.
