I have two spots Available for a deer/ elk hunt in our hunting area in Western Montana. The Dates are October 22-27,2011. We will horseback into our wall tent camp,3miles, on the 21st so we are ready to hunt opening morning. We hunt area 321 in the Beaverhead Mountains. This is a full service package with airport pick up and return ( missoula MT), meals, guides(2x1) and lodging.
We run an average of 50% success. The better shape you are in and ability to hike/ ride in the mountains the better you chances of higher success will be.

Well no wonder there are left over licenses hunters are staying away from Idaho and Western Montana because the wolves have destroyed the elk population
I hunted near Hamiltion last November with 5 other guys we did not see one legal bull
We hunted from sun up to sun down 8 days.
Unless there is some private low lying property finding any bulls is very hard.
Just check the hunter check station reports I was there every day like over 50,000 hunter days
reported and less than 500 bulls taken very low per-centage.
I just think anybody considering any hunt in theses areas should really do some checking on sucess rates.
Sorry to rain on your post but thats the way it is up there and its a shame.
Larry

well larry sorry you had an unsuccesful hunt. And yes the wolves have done a number both in the Bitterroots and the sapphires. I live in the bitterrot but don't personally hunt here. But that isn't where my hunts are. The average statewide success in Montana for elk runs around 12% annually. That takes into account a lot of halfhearted resident elk hunters. We run 4 to 5 times better then that. Though I live in a wall tent roughly 60 days out of the late summer and fall. I give 110 percent to make sure people hunting with me get the most bang for their buck (pun intended). Our elk area is on national forest and borders some VERY Large cattle ranches that keep enough pressure on the USFWS for stock predation. Montana is a huge state and yes we have a predator problem in some areas but in others we still have lots of game. As long as we can keep the predation in check ( wolf and human) it should stay that way.

Please dont take me wrong hunting is hunting and I had a great time. I took my grandson and he had a great time also. We went on a bargin deal with Rick Wemple. He hunted as hard as any good outfitter would. We had great snow and seen moose and the highlight for me was seeing many Big Horn Sheep around Darby what a great sight.
Good luck on your hunts. Keep up the hard hunting
Larry

Thanks Saeed will do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larry I hear you on the sheep. Beat some unbelievable odds and took a desert ram out of Utah this year and was able tag along on my friends Rocky hunt in the West Fork. He took an old warrior of a ram heavily broomed. I hope you at least got to have beer at the Bitterroot Brewery. If not let me know next time your in the valley and one is on me!!!!!!

I still have some elk only hunts available and for anyone interested in 2012 we also hunt mule deer and antelope on private land in eastern montana. I will help with the application process that is going to start on April 18th just let me know.

The website for our elk hunts is www.huntmontanaelk.com or check out Continental Divide Outfitters on facebook
