Well guys,

After the huge success of last years hunt we are repeating this hunt again in 2014.

It really is a great week of shooting and socialising in a magnificent setting.

Dates: 28th September 2014 - 5th October 2014
Outfitter: Athina Hunting Tours
Location: Royal Deeside, Scotland
Arrival & Departure Point: Aberdeen Airport
Price: £7,500
Availability: 4 Spaces Left

Athina Sporting invites you to join us on the 28th of September 2014 for a week-long shooting party, with top-class game shooting and deer stalking in the magnificent surrounding of Royal Deeside in North East Scotland. We have organised a great programme of shooting for the week, featuring driven grouse and driven partridge on the hill, along with opportunities for Wildfowling, and stalking for Roe bucks or red stags for those that wish to add it in.

Arriving by road or air on Sunday 28th September and departing on Sunday 5th October, we will be staying on the wonderful Glenmuick estate, near the Royal burgh of Ballater on Deeside, Scotland. The chosen location offers excellent accommodation in a magnificent Victorian baronial manor house, with all of the features you’d expect to find in a house that provided a backdrop for the height of the Scottish sporting traditions during the 19th century. The billiard room in particular, with a hundred and eighty years of stag trophies adorning the walls and ceiling, is a sight to behold.

The estate and the house – built as a wealthy English family’s hunting lodge in the late 18th century - is adjacent to the Cairngorm Mountains and the River Dee, adjacent to the Queen’s Balmoral estate and the pretty village of Ballater, where nearly every shop enjoys a Royal warrant.

A professional chef will be in residence for the whole of your visit, offering freshly prepared meals featuring Scottish favourites and using local game, along with a selection of great wines. The housekeeping will be provided on a daily basis by the estates housekeeper.

Sporting opportunities: We have put together what promises to be a really good week of sport:

Sunday 28th September . We will arrive at Glenmuick house at around noon, to give us plenty of time to settle in and meet the team. Snacks will be served upon arrival followed by a full dinner in the main dining room in the evening.

Monday 29th September . We will be shooting a 50-60 brace day of driven grouse on Glen Muick’s own grouse moor.

Tuesday 30th September . For those guests not interested in bagging a salmon or a stag, this is a day or rest, or an excuse to do a bit of sightseeing and visit the Lochnagar distillery on the nearby Balmoral estate. For the stalker, this is an opportunity to spend the day on the hill to bag a Red stag or to be up with the lark to have a chance at a Roe buck. Alternatively, there will be an opportunity to fish for the wild Atlantic salmon on a local salmon beat.

Wednesday 1st October .We will be shooting a 250+ bird day of driven Pheasant, Duck & Partridge on the high ground of the Fettercairn estate, where the partridge fly like high West Country pheasants and offer challenging shooting.

Thursday 2nd October .This is another rest day for those who have over-indulged in shooting and puddings, or another chance to take a stag, Roe buck or salmon. Spending a week in this part of Scotland without picking up a rifle to go stalking or a fly-rod to go fishing, is a week wasted!

Friday 3rd October . We will be shooting a 250+ bird day of driven partridge on another local estate. This area of Scotland is well known for the quality of its driven shooting, so we anticipate another excellent day

Saturday 4th October . We will be returning to the Fettercairn estate, this time for a day of driven grouse on the eastern side of the Cairngorm mountain range. Once again, we expect the shooting be challenging and the setting to be superb.

In the evenings we’ll meet for dinner and, as your hosts, we’ll will want to toast your good fortune on the hill, moor or river with a glass or two of single malt – it’s not called ‘uisge beatha’ (the water of life) for nothing…

Sunday 5th October . We will depart in the morning from Aberdeen airport or by car.

Excluded are Tips, and Cartridges.

Rgds,
Kiri

Also, what are the trophy fees for Roe, Stag? What are the fees for the Shotgun shells? (*I presume one would use local shells given several 200+ bird days...)

Hi Robert,

Yes indeed this is bookable for 2015. Dates will be roughly the same as the accommodation runs from Sunday to Sunday, so I think it just moves forward a day. It should start on the 27th September which will give us a chance on the salmon too.

I will check stag prices for you but last year I think they were about £650 +VAT. Roe Bucks come in at about £200

If you wanted to take a stag then I would suggest you go to our Dumfries location where the Scottish hill record was shot and shoot a real big boy.

Shells come in at about £320 per thousand depending on the brand. We supply them on location and if we can get a better price then they can go lower to £280 per thousand.

Rgds,
Kiri

Thought I would throw a recommendation in for Kiri.

I did this hunt with my buddy Gregg last year & it had to be one of the
best hunting trips I've ever experienced. I had always dreamed of shooting
driven grouse, staying in a castle & just soaking in the ambience of Scotland.
This trip far exceeded my expectations. The food is excellent, the accomodations
are great at the "castle", barring Kiri & Michael the company was interesting
& fun to be around Smiler

To me this trip is on the same level as any African Safari as far as uniqueness
& just the overall experience.

Really a great value, hope to be able to do it again. Not looking good for this year
because of prior hunting commitments. (which I am trying to change!)

Anyone can PM me if they want further details.

Jim

Hi Tom

Yes accommodation is available for non Hunting partners. We have double rooms available with private bathrooms, but we are out of ensuite doubles.

It's one of the downsides of a 170 year old castle but a small concession to use such a great building.

Please, someone take this last spot. I'm already scheming on how to

move some of my other "set in stone" commitments to make this work.

After being able to do this hunt last September, I really feel that
IMHO, this has to be one of the best value hunting experiences on offer.

Truly a unique adventure to the lucky person who gets to go.

Staying in a castle & hunting Red Grouse in Scotland is a real treat.

Have fun & shoot well Kiri

Hey Saeed,

Just be aware that in those places you will be able to hear Walter talking from a LOOOOONG way away!! Also if to get one with an echo, you will hear everything he says about half a dozen times!!!

Are you ready for that?

You could always put him in a tower somewhere...

JB,

Mikes bottom lip has been sticking out ever since he found out you are not coming....

You need to make sure that September 2015 is clear as we are taking the place as a for my 40th birthday celebrations.

It will be Grouse, Grouse and more Grouse!!!

Make those changes , you know you want to!! Wink

Hey Kiri,

This is a very interesting offer for a future bucket list adventure.
Do they frown upon hunting with semi auto shotguns. I don't own any doubles and couldn't hit the side of a barn when I did own them.

Butch,

Generally the perceived gravity of the misdemeanour to bring a semi automatic shotgun onto a grouse moor depends on a number of factors.

Firstly is it painted in full camo?

Secondly does the owners camo [including face paint] match that of the shotgun?

Thirdly does the gun have magazine extension tubes enabling "a wall of lead"...

Fourthly does the owner have some kind of [note; non specific] shoulder/joint/elbow/finger injury that means this is the only sensible option for him to continue shooting.

If the answer to the first three questions is no, and the fourth gets anything more than a casual nod or "maybee....", then I think you will be fine with a semi auto as our guys are pretty chilled out and a couple of them do shoot with semi autos.

There is an exception to the rule, and that is if the cammo on your gun/face-paint is "highland heather". I've never seen this but welcome the day!!

Wink

You would be more than welcome.

Best regards,
Kiri

Guys,

The non hunting spouses will be £2,500 inclusive of VAT for 2015 if all details materialise as per my expectations.

We are just finalising the itineraries for the next season and will get back with details. At present I have the week of the 6th to the 13th September reserved which being 3 weeks earlier will give better grouse shooting and likely better weather too.

For the last two years the team has wanted to shoot 5-6 days rather than the 4 days in the itinerary, so what we did this season was add in an extra day of driven grouse as an option on the relaxation day and then offer stags or walked up shooting on the other relaxation day. That way everyone can make their mind up if they want the extra shooting or not without incurring unnecessary costs.

I should have itineraries finalised in the next couple of weeks and I will post it up. I am working on a second week for the 27th Sep to the 4th Oct but that is still being finalised but this may already be pretty much sold out.

Best regards,
Kiri

Kiri - Please remember to keep a room at the castle with our names (mine and the wife's) on it for the period your mentioning - end of September, early October - for stag stalking and a roe buck if possible. I can go in the bushes, but she'll definitely want a nice bathroom. I'm planning on sorting out the details with you in Dallas, but we're definitely planning on the trip.

Thanks.

Hi Kent, we are just waiting for final details as we had a clash with the family week so the Laird pulled rank!!! Our grouse week is now early September.

I should have some equally good or better alternative for the original dates so rest assured we will get it sorted for you.

Looking forward to seeing you in Dallas mate.

Hey Eddy,

I hope you are keeping well mate. I won't be at either of those shows exhibiting, but I will be at DSC. If I manage it I might go to Vegas for the weekend as a visitor.

Drop me a PM with your number and I will give you a call to discuss. Dinner would be great if we can meet up.
