Athina Sporting is yet again organising a week-long shooting party, with top-class game shooting in the magnificent surroundings of Royal Deeside in North East Scotland. We have organised a great programme of shooting for the week, featuring driven grouse and driven partridge on the hill, along with opportunities for Wildfowling, and stalking for Roe bucks or red stags for those that wish to add it in.

Arriving by road or air on Sunday 27th September and departing on Sunday 4th October, we will be staying on the wonderful Kincardine Castle that many in the USA will have recently seen featured as one of the Downton Abbey castles.

The chosen location offers excellent accommodation in a magnificent Victorian baronial manor house, with all of the features you’d expect to find in a house that provided a backdrop for the height of the Scottish sporting traditions during the 19th century. You will be hosted by the Laird, myself, and one of the worlds authorities on English shotguns, Diggory Hadoke. We will also make available some English guns and hammerguns for you to shoot if you desire.

A professional chef will be in residence for the whole of your visit, offering freshly prepared meals featuring Scottish favourites and using local game, along with a selection of great wines. The housekeeping will be provided on a daily basis by the estates housekeeper.

Sporting opportunities: We have put together what promises to be another great week of sport:

Sunday 27th September . We will arrive at Kincardine Castle at around noon, to give us plenty of time to settle in and meet the team. Snacks will be served upon arrival followed by a full dinner in the main dining room in the evening.

Monday 28th September . We will be shooting a 50-60 brace day of driven grouse on the Glendye grouse moor.

Tuesday 29th September . For those guests not interested in bagging a salmon or a stag, this is a day or rest, or an excuse to do a bit of sightseeing and visit the Lochnagar distillery on the nearby Balmoral estate. For the stalker, this is an opportunity to spend the day on the hill to bag a Red stag or to be up with the lark to have a chance at a Roe buck. Alternatively, there will be an opportunity to fish for the wild Atlantic salmon on a local salmon beat.

Wednesday 30th September .We will be shooting a 50-60 brace day of driven grouse on the Glendye grouse moor.

We will be shooting a 250+ bird day of driven Pheasant, Duck & Partridge on the high ground of the Fettercairn estate, where the partridge fly like high West Country pheasants and offer challenging shooting.

Thursday 1st October We will be shooting a 200+ bird day of driven partridge on another local estate. This area of Scotland is well known for the quality of its driven shooting, so we anticipate another excellent day.

Friday 2nd October This is another rest day for those who have over-indulged in shooting and puddings. We Have an extra day of driven grouse available for the day which can be added in at a cost of £975/peg. Alternatively it is a great opportunity to soak up the ambiance of the castle or spend a day with dig looking a a wide variety of curious guns he always seems to carry around!!

Saturday 3rd October . We will be returning to the Fettercairn estate, this time for a day of driven Pheasant and Partridges on the eastern side of the Cairngorm mountain range. Once again, the shooting will be challenging and the setting will be superb.

In the evenings we’ll meet for dinner and, as your hosts, we’ll will want to toast your good fortune on the hill, moor or river with a glass or two of single malt – it’s not called ‘uisge beatha’ (the water of life) for nothing…

Sunday 4th October . We will depart in the morning from Aberdeen airport or by car.

Excluded are Tips, and Cartridges.

This is how quick they are:

Grouse

You have to be ready for them!!

Kiri

Guys I should add that there are two days of driven grouse available to add onto this package prior to the week advertised.

The extra days are the 25th and 26th of September and cost £975 per day. On these days we will also be shooting driven mountain hares as the estate has to reduce their numbers dramatically as part of the tick management process, so we will have between 100-200 hares in the bag I would think each day.

The extra days are also available separately from the main week too.

Rgds,
K

That would be Jacob.

And it's damn unlikely that you, or many others reading this, are nearly as good a wingshot on wild birds.

By the smiley, I wouldn't be surprised if you know that also...

Good hunting

Fuddy got lucky and had the said hobbit as a sherpa last year!!

We're going to upgrade his guide to Jon"The Mountain Goat" this season... I hope you have a good relationship with the stair master mate?

Jacob was hunting with us on Saturday, and someone said to me

"Who's that chap you were catting to earlier?"

(There were 43 chaps in total so when I asked which one he saidn

"You know, The one that loos like he lives in a swamp..."

The boy can shoot indeed!!

Happy Happy Happy!!

Hi Tysue,

No there is no per bird charge, and on the grouse they don't really limit our bag either, although this is very dependent on the team in the butts and the wind speed as to how many we actually hit!! Wink

The only extras to pay on location are your cartridges, and any extra days shooting booked if not paid in advance. (4 days are included in the package)

The thing for sure is that you will have plenty of shooting. We also finish on the last day with the partridge day so if the grouse have been a little slow for whatever reason we can increase the bag on the partridges to ensure a full weeks shooting. Coming off of the glens these are amazing sport in their own right.

Obviously with wild birds its tough to predict everything (and I prefer to under promise and over deliver) but I can assure that we make the sport work alongside the wider experience of these amazing buildings we get to live in for a week.

Rgds,
K
