Hi Guys I have farmers with Lion and Hyena problems in Namibia. Due to the export bans the next step for these guys is to start using poison. In an effort to give these animals some value I am offering a non export hunt. The farmer keeps the skins and skulls. The hunt is tough, we drive between farms checking tracks and will be out on baits every night. We can cover 200km in a day. We will take fresh tracks on foot if we find them in the morning. You must be comfortable sitting in ground blinds at night near carcasses etc. This is not a hunt for the feint hearted. Day Rates: $850/day Trophy Fees: Lion: Male $5000 Female: $2500 Hyena $2500 (exportable) Dates: ASAP there are permits in place as we speak and there is predation on farms now. 3 cattle were killed last night again. If you wish to hold the lion skin until the ban is lifted you pay for dip and pack and $1000 storage. If you manage to get an export permit you pay in the difference in the full trophy fee of the year in which you get the permit. i.e. if we are selling exportable male lions at $20 000 you pay in $15k female at $5500 you pay in $3000. Over ad above that it will be dip and pack and export costs for your own account. The benefit here is that we motivate the farmers to preserve the lions by making them valuable again. The reality here is that the farmers are getting much less than before, but its still better than nothing and will pay for some of the animals they loose. The farmers get 100% of the reduced trophy fee, hopefully causing them to think twice before they use poison. Pick up and drop off at Windhoek at no charge. Daily Rate Includes: All meals and accommodation. Services of licensed Hunting Outfitter and PH’s. Services of both camp and field staff. Hunt transport in fully equipped well maintained 4x4s. Field preparation of trophies, (caping, salting, tagging and cleaning of skulls, shipping to Taxidermist in Namibia). Hunting Licenses. Daily Rate Excludes: Trophy fees. Taxidermy costs. Alcohol and tobacco. Gratuities to staff. Here we go... The captive bred Lion Fire Sale... This was definitely going to happen now that the market took a huge hit. I'm not against it, it's just a new reality...sell them for what you can to feed the rest and hope the market comes back. It may be well worth it to have a couple of skins in storage

Maybe you should check your geography before making asinine posts. These are wild lions 1500km away from South Africa. Its closer to Angola than it is to SA and yet you want to try and lump my hunt in with caged animals. Well done mate, you are a special kind of stupid. Can we get confirmation that these lions are in fact fenced lions vs wild lions coming onto an existing cattle farm.

Weird. I think my post was made simultaneously with the other. If these are wild lions then where does it appear they are coming from?

Ian, is this Etosha area and has MET issued the permits? If it is the Etosha area, there are plenty of problem lions. The biggest threat to them are the freakin Himba who poison the crap out of them and everything else in the vicinity. With the ongoing drought, lions are hitting cattle a lot harder than usual. ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.

Hi Opus Yes, permits in place and lions and hyenas destroying stock in same places as we discussed last time. Also further west in the wilder areas towards Palmwag The droughts full effect is only now taking its toll. There has been unrestricted lion breeding in the protected areas for a while now. The lions literally just wait at the water and kill continually. This has lead to an explosion in their population. The current estimate is that there are more than 1000 lions living outside of the protected areas. They have basically annexed farms alongside the protected zones. I personally saw groups last year numbering 15 - 20 lions living more than 50km from park boundaries. With land reform having left farms "unused" they are finding new territory all over the place. As has happened in SA, "land reform farms" are quickly returning to wild land when the "new owners" realize that a farm is not just a cash cow. Part of the reason I say we will always hunt lions in Africa, some nations may just not be able to export them. One way or another, we need to find ways to stop the use of poison as the consequences of that are far reaching. Hard to believe there are farms I was on where we never heard a single jackal or night creature in a week of sitting on baits. No pigs either, the poison had killed everything. Ok, sounds like I owe you an apology... It appears these are indeed wild lions per your response and if so I certainly can say that I apologize. ..and I thought you were perhaps being liberal with the truth to market the hunt You can understand, however, that many a Lion has suddenly appeared as a "PAC" animal. As I said, I'm not against it personally (haven't done it but not against it) The timing of a "PAC" hunt popping up is obviously potentially questionable. The only thing I have a problem with is when others misrepresent the hunt being offered and we will for sure (and I believe soon) be seeing the Lions being "dumped" because they are too expensive to feed

How many days should plan on hunting at 850 a day?

This is being discussed at the moment. And with all the incidental killing it may finally have some push within the government. But the cattle guys are a tough lobby here. The Govt needs to step up. But lets hope they dont bring a plan like Bots in. They pay about USD 100 per animal you loose. That is roughly 20% of its value. So they are still poisoning flat out there. Just makes no sense Specialist Outfitters and Big Game Hounds An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last. - Winston Churchill

Rasta 5-10 days will give you a fair chance. Keeping in mind that it is a PAC hunt and there are no guarantees. That said our success rate was over 90% last season. We work hard and sleep very little though so be prepared to go home tired. Either way its the cheapest lion hunt you will ever do. Are these lions hunted out west of Kamanjab, out off C40? If so, I know a few of the more prominent ranchers and PH's in the Kamanjab area, having hunted there three times in the last four years. Jesus saves, but Moses invests

Hi Bud Not as far west as that, but I hear they are also having a lot of trouble there. If you ask me, the shit is about to hit the fan up there. Cheers Ian Specialist Outfitters and Big Game Hounds An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last. - Winston Churchill
