I have had three hunters cancel their hunt for May 4-15, 2013. So I am now trying to fill this hunt.

The hunt will be conducted by Debula Yedwa Safaris and PH Herman DeWit. The hunt is conducted on the Goss Estates near the town of Pongola. This is really a beautiful 15,000 acre property with many hills and valleys. This is excellant nyala country and there are many to be hunted.

The property also contains excellent blue wildebeest, impala, warthog and zebra. I have seen some really magnificent kudu here, though they are not easy to hunt.

The daily fee is $350/day and is all inclusive expect strong alcohol and trophy fees. Airport pick up is included when you fly into the Durban King Shaka airport. 2x1 is $300/day.

trophy fees are;
Nyala - $1670
Kudu - $1190
Blue Wildebeest - $900
Impala - $240
warthog - $230
Red duiker - $1190
bushbuck - $720
Zebra - $1150

If you search some of my older posts you will see pics from this Goss Estates hunting ranch. Also you will see that Mr DeWit has a knock of getting me onto some pretty nice trophies.

If you interest in this hunt or have further questions you may PM me here or call me direct at (315) 921-1225.

Good Hunting,

This is the mountain camp, which is about 6 km into the camp toward the top of the mountain and is very secluded. You can see the hills behind the buildings. What you are looking at here are the larger of the three buildings which has the "sitting room" and one of the bedrooms. The other is the kitchen and abolution block. Not shown is a suite where there is an attached bathroom. These are pretty nice but not luxery. There are hot showers which are very nice after a day of hunting.

And the link to my report from May 2012 hunt.

Can't vouch for the Outfitter or PH but I did the Goss PH certification course there on that property in Oct 2010 and then stayed and hunted the property for a few days after the course.

The photos are of the "upper" camp and there is the "lower" main camp on the other half of the property where they also do hunts and a couple of time a year the PH School. As John said, the upper camp is basic but comfortable - you feel you are hunting and not at a holiday resort and I prefer that.

If you are after Nyala, Bushbuck or Red Duiker this is the place to go as they had very good populations then and some VERY VERY nice sized Nyala and very good numbers of them.

Don't know who is providing/doing the cooking but if it is Carol Goss and her staff the food was good - think typical "English" style - and she and her staff will take good care of you.

Only hitch was that I flew in to J'berg on SAA and had my ammo in a locked box in a checked bag and my rifle case. Flying in on SAA on an "International" flight I was allowed two pieces of "free" checked luggage - rifle case and my checked bag with ammo. I was not allowed to check luggage all the way through. The hick-up came when I went to re-check my rifle and check bag on South African Express that is the servicing subsidiary carrier into Durban and Port Elizabeth. Checking in I declared the rifle case - fine. I declared the ammo in the checked bag - not fine. They made me take the locked ammo box out of the checked bag and pay an extra bag fee to ship that - $90.00 to ship less than 10 lbs. I was also charged 100Rand on the return to check the rifle case back in.

The above travel issue has nothing to do with this Outfitter or PH - just passing info along so that anyone taking this hunt has fewer surprises along the way that might detract from a great time on a nice property in a very cool and historic location.

Thank you for your input concerning this property. It really is very beautiful. I hunted there last year, May 2012, and there are still excellent nyala, bushbuck and red duiker. We also spotted a number of kudu, but they were very elusive. We watched 3 red duiker feed for about 30 minutes one morning and that was really a highlight.

John:

In the month I was there I walked every inch of the lower 7500 acre section and most of the upper 7500 tract. I would presume the lucky hunter would have access to both as the best area for Nyala is the lower tract in that thick creek bottom. The best Bushbuck area is the upper tract.

Between the two tracts it is like a mini Africa in that it has parts that are as thick as jungle, open "savanna", open forest and steep hillsides. It's very cool in that you can pick your species and find it's specific habitat and go after it. There is also an area of rock exposed along the riverbed in the lower tract that Ian said a geologist told him doesn't appear anywhere else - wish I could remember what he called it but it was unlike anything I had ever seen.

Still kick myself for not getting an old warthog that looked like he was carrying a set of Harley handlebars for tusks. During the PH course we couldn't actually shoot any animals. We took turns "guiding" each other up to a "shooting position", getting the "hunter" on the sticks and then take a photo over his shoulder to "prove" the hunt. Kicked the old hog out late one afternoon and couldn't find him again when I was actually "allowed" to hunt the last couple of days - I was more focused on a giant old Blue Wildebeest I had kicked up twice and REALLY wanted him.

Like I said earlier - great property and you are at the southern end of the "Great Rift Valley" and in the heart of the Zulu. If someone takes this stay a few extra days, rent a car and drive to some of the parks and historic sights in the area too.
