Our Alberta outfitter has a cancellation opening for trophy mule deer. The opening is for one hunter on November 2-7, 2009. The normal price for this 6 day, 1x1 guided hunt is $6500 and the discounted price is $5000. Includes meals, lodging, airport pick-up and drop-off at Calgary. Very good odds of killing a 175+ buck. While I was in camp last year, hunters killed a 180 and a 181 and a 190+ on the hunt before ours. Only four hunters taken per hunt. We saw 20+ bucks per day. Hunting can be by spot and stalk in the backcountry or by driving the back roads, glassing and then putting on a stalk. One of my clients, who is well-traveled, hunted the week after I did and he said it was the best hunt he was ever on. He saw lots of good bucks, killed his best buck ever and also killed a wolf. The outfitter says there has been a lot of rain this year resulting in excellent antler growth. After harvesting a mule deer, hunters may add an elk hunt for $1000 plus license cost. The elk inhabit the same ranches as the mule deer but have a large home range and are not always on the properties. The bulls are typically raghorn meat bulls with an occasional 6×6. License cost is approx. $250 for deer and $300 for elk. Licenses are guaranteed through the outfitter with no draw required.
