FjoldMaybe you can explain something to me about this hunt, why does the day rate vary with whether or not you shoot the lion? Aren't the cost and risks the same whether or not a lion is shot?
I've never hunted lion so is this normal?

daleWWould this be a drugged--formally caged lion hunt, or the real wild deal?
The reason I ask is there are a few recent posts that lion shot in SA are all canned. In addition, other places drug and import the pet lions.
please advise.

ozhunterThis area is known for its lion that come across from Kruger.

shakariDale,
Actually buddy, this hunt is in Zimbabwe not South Africa. There's no doubt Lions do get transferred across the border and introduced as ringers but nothing like the numbers in SA. Also, that won't happen with Aubrey running things and he even says you're free to take blood samples if you want, so that sounds like a pretty good guarantee to me.
There's also the situation of habituation to vehicles and people to consider but if you check a map, you'll see that the vast majority of roads in the KNP are towards the west side of the reserve running mostly north to east and that the eastern side of the park has very little roads or traffic and therefore the animals on that side will be the least habituated.
It strikes me as a bloody good offer.
Neil,
Nothing wrong with a Landie mate.... they're the vehicle that tamed and civilised Africa........... between breakdowns!

Frank,
Put it this way, there are people out there who would sell you a lion hunt when there is more chance of me falling pregnant than you even seeing one, so the difference in day rates is an incentive and call it a gaurentee to us both.
I have already sold a lion at $2000 USD per day

there is a saying that is used in my family for a comment like your " GAAN KAK IN DIE MIELIES"

And as for you Steve and Walter

, i just bought my 4th Landrover..... ha ha ha, so i better start stocking up on spares..... but that being said i change air filters and oil every 5 000 km and have yet to pick up any problems
funny enough, the 130 is kitted out with extra springs in the suspension, man in motors on a dirt road, only thing is that you end up going faster than you should and blow outs become a problem at 110km per hr on a dirt road.
Walter we also have a hi-lux that has been used and abused, it has only done 170 000km's but the hardest km's ever seen

shakariJoking aside, I like the Landies. I reckon they're more comfortable than a Toyota and also more capable than a Toyota.... although not by much.
I reckon the biggest advantage of the Toyota is they're easier to access the service items. Which is why some people don't service their Landies as often as they should and why they consequently seem to break down more. Service 'em right and they go forever.
Can't stand the Discovery though!!!!!

especially when the landys go through tyres at the rate that they do!!!! i've just bought 5 new tyres and then descovered that i need to buy 3 for the other landrover!!!!!!!!!
27 January 2010, 22:45
shakariThat's one of the problems with permanent 4x4 huh?
My old 1980 Jeep Wagoneer is the same way..... so much so that I rather think I'll buy the 1968 Ford I Beam that's for sale just down the road to save tyre wear on the Jeep.
At least, that's the line I'm feeding the Mrs!!

03 February 2010, 10:05
luanHi Guys
Though i will settle this argument over the tyre wear the problem is you guys drive too much spares around.

Get a toyota and safe on spares and tyrewear.
Aubrey give me a call if you can.

GanyanaThat is a very fair offer for those interested in a good lion.
BTW, I do a similar thing with the daily rate- keep that low and simply push up the 'trophy fee' if the client shoots one. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you fill out the paper work as $2000 per day for 21 days and 8k trophy fee, or $1000 a day for ten days and 40k trophy fee...IF you shoot a lion. If you don't shoot a lion...then option 2 looks darn reasonable!
NOW, onto the jokes....
What is the difference between a landrover and a sheep?...You feel less embaressed when your mates catch you getting out of a sheep.
How do you get oil out of a rock?...Write 'Landrover' on it.
How do you get stuck in the bush?...drive a cruiser

03 February 2010, 13:17
jimmaraI cant guarantee the landies but at least i know the tyres are good. They better be i supplied them
03 February 2010, 14:22
luanIf there is no oil leaks under the landy be very aware because there no oil in your engine anymore.
aub sorry for hijacking the thread maybe we must iscuss a end of a year safri to make up for this.

Andrew McLarenI acknowledge the truth of "Landrover: The best 4X4 by far!"

It is also hopelessly to small for me to fit into with any degree of comfort!

In past years I used to really criss-cross the Kalahari in Botswana: I visited Mabuasehube many, many times and also Khutse, Central Kalahari, Makgadikgadi, Moremi and the Okavango proper and again and again Okavango on a regular basis. A saying by our crowd goes something like this: A Landrover (Nissan or other 4X4) is a very nice vehicle to go to the Kalahari with! But, if you want to go back home after your visit, better go in a Land Cruiser!
In good hunting.

shakariCharl,
Mind you don't get jacked..... I've no idea if it's true or not but my buddy who's head of the traffic dept reckons the Landcruiser is the most hijacked vehicle in SA (pro rata).
At least no-ne's gonna jack a Landy because they know it'll probably break down before they get across the border..... and if it doesn't, they know it can be tracked by the oil drips!
OK, OK guys. I was joking, I REALLY do like the Landies really!.
And if you think a Landy leaks oil, you should see my old Wagoneer which is twice as bad!

09 February 2010, 15:21
GanyanaWell yes...when I park in Harare, I leave the window's open on my landie and the keys in the ignition...the street kids throw money in to help me out

Seriously, I never lock the landie or take the keys out...if you tried that with a cruiser it would be in Mozambique before you had finished shopping
