Hello All

Listed below is a spot I am trying to fill at the Cobouurg Developments concession on Cobourg Peninsula, NT. This is IMO the best banteng hunting, anywhere, with a chance at trophy boar and sambar deer. Lots of big old bulls!!! There are a few buffalo in the area too but it is hit and miss on them.

Five Day Hunt Package - $16,000 - (Normally $16,500 plus $165 trophy prep) - this special includes one banteng bull, resort accommodation, meals, trophy prep.
Hunt Dates : August 14th through 18th

Package does not include air charters (depends on who is coming and going), resort alcoholic bar drinks. Licence $165.

Two 2012 AR hunt reports here...

My DSC banteng article here... for your interest, on the species.

I also have a short promo video of the area. I am not allowed to post it publicly till the end of May (till after the TV show airs) - but if anyone wants to view it, just shoot me a PM or email and I'll send you the unlisted Youtube link.

Any questions just let me know!!

Cheers

BANTENG HUNTING – NORTHERN TERRITORY

Hunt Australia’s banteng hunting is conducted on the Coburg Peninsula, Gurig National Park in the Northern Territory. Banteng are one of the true wild bovine of Asia and at Cobourg we have the only wild and free, huntable herd of banteng in the world. Banteng are a beautiful, secretive and dangerous animal and a banteng bull makes memorable trophy hunt. This hunting area is best described as super-remote. There are no roads in to the accommodation and access to the hunt concession is by light charter aircraft (50 minutes) from Darwin and thereafter by four-wheel-drive hunting vehicles.

Banteng are most active early and late in the day, when they can be found feeding out from cover. During the heat of the day they move into the dense forest and stalking these areas provides the best hunting experience – close quarters and exciting. Sambar deer and wild boar also inhabit the hunting area and can be taken if the hunter is well prepared and prompted by their guide. Sambar deer are very secretive animals and another wonderful trophy - to take a sambar stag during a wild banteng hunt is a rare achievement. Banteng hunting on Cobourg is mainly a walk-and-stalk type tracking hunt – but we can do some spotting from vehicles if the situation arises.

Accommodation at the area is a luxury resort, on the beautiful coastline and right in the heart of the remote hunting concession. Individual chalets are complimented with first-class dining and general amenities at the resort and there are fishing and sightseeing side-tours available to observers. There is also excellent fishing in this area

We are confident that you will be able to take a world-class banteng trophy on a typical five-day hunt. Many clients choose to utilize any extra days hunting with their guide for additional banteng, wild boar, sambar deer or bluewater fishing.

2013/14 1x1 Banteng Package – Five full hunting days, six nights in camp - $16,500 including one trophy bull.
Package price does not include air transfers, firearms licence.
Regular Wilderness Season - June through November

Matt,

Looks great and exotic. Fairly pricey compared to a buff hunt.

Just as a comparison what is the dip and pack fee? Charter etc

Fairly pricey?? Yes it is quite a bit more than a buffalo hunt but we only have 15 permits per year and obviously the cost of running out of the resort is greater too.

As far as the actual cost goes I think it compares very favourably to some of the other rare species/hunts that folks chase around the world - sheep, rare antelopes, etc.

In my opinion the 'proper' banteng hunt, this one, is the BEST hunt we have in Australia... Buffalo are a great hunt but the banteng are a whole other level...

I would count on 2 grand for the single-engined charter (round trip), if it wasn't split with anyone..

Dip and pack - we do it a little differently here - but if it was a single animal it would be about $100.

Check out the hunt report links in the thread OP mate - photos are there. We only did a few hunts there last year and that was the first that had officially been done in that corner of the park... for ever. Most of the concession used to be a no hunt zone for the purposes of the licenced outfitters. That should give you an idea of the quality of the animals in this concession. I have plenty other wild banteng photos but they are from other parts of their range.

You wanna come banteng hunting mate?? Smiler

I haven't been on this hunt but have hunted multiple times with Matt and he runs a top notch outfit. 100% vouch for his honesty/integrity. Feel free to contact me if needed.

Last hunt with Matt was at Gan Gan for a couple buffalo and a scrub bull(not a Banteng but an awesome hunt for a bovid species that has been living wild for centuries).... took a pig also. On the scrubber we snuck in on a group of two bulls by crawling through some thigh high grass to within 15-20 yards, peaked up and shot one of them. The first shot got his attention and second barrel of my 500 dumped him but his buddy wasn't happy and was searching for us in the thigh high grass while we snuck back out on our bellies. Adrenaline was flowing!

One of my favorite hunting memories honestly and I had more fun on that bull than on my first cape Buffalo. Point of the story is I know Banteng can look like a bit like a farm cow but these are wild animals, are wary and will come for you. By all accounts they are a fine hunt and a challenging trophy.

I would be seriously considering this if My budget wasn't dedicated elsewhere.

Good luck Matt. Look forward to coming back at some point.
