I have a spot open for EARLY SEPT 5-15th for a dall sheep hunt in interior alaska.
Normal hunt price $14,000 NEW PRICE $12,000
10 day hunt
air taxi and pick up from anchorage included
lices and tags not included.
was 2 for 2 on rams this season, can attach pics if anyone wants to see them.
fly to anchorage and i'll pick you up there.
this is not a sissy hunt, this is a backpacking, sweating, hurting, rewarding sheep hunt, there are no airplanes out there spotting game for you, this is hunting how it should be, straight fair chase.
I do all my own guiding personally and have references, several from here in AR as well. i have a little flex in the dates so let me know if this is of interest.
grizzly can be added as a combo hunt as well for additional cost.

Hi Jake,

I have been thinking of stepping out of my comfort zone and trying something like this, but am wondering if no ram is seen and the hunter is in good enough shape to hunt hard, is there any refund in case no ram is taken?

Thanks,

Mike

The only place I have seen this done and only very recently was with the very expensive Stone sheep hunts, where they reduced the actual hunt cost and added a trophy fee if you were successful. If memory serves, the hunt was 24,000.00 but was reduced to 18,000.00 with a 6,000.00 trophy fee. This was done to make these hunts a bit more attractive to the average hunter who just can't put that kind of cash out and come home empty handed even though they hunted hard and did not see a legal ram. I would like to see this methodology come to North American hunting in general and I see no reason it can't.

no refunds, i'm selling a hunt, not a sheep.
my expenses dont' change just because we have bad weather and can't find a sheep or the client isn't in good enough shape to get around...

Jake, thats a good point. Probably more room to move pricing on the Stone sheep hunts as they used to cost just a few grand more than Dall, now they are double the price for whatever reasons.

in theory it sounds good, just pay to play and then pay extra to kill. But there are so many factors out of guides control that charging different rates gets things a little boggled.
When someone buys a hunt, be it a discount or full price, i still put out all the same effort no matter what they are paying.
But, sometimes clients don't prepare for a hunt and it goes bad. and true hunting is kinda a thing of the past, selling hunts is not longer favored over garunteed hunts in many places. i don't scout sheep from the air, i make no garuntees to killing a sheep, its all fair chase and that requires hard work and commitment on everybodys part....
who's cowboy?

I understand your hunting methods but what does a couple of old hunters like me and BIG BORE

Jake, your a stand up guy for making sure everyone knows there is only one way your gonna do it. The right way...the way it's supposed to be. Maybe it will give someone incentive to drop an extra 30 pounds off the waist line and hit the gym a few days a week.

Thirty pounds? How did you know? I am on my way to the stairmaster now. I got a few other items to settle before I can commit to this hunt. Everything should be cleared up by Xmas.

Good Job
Look at this way, with small goals::: thats less than ONE pound loss per week.
I would have to sign up 3 years in advance.

You cannot compare North America to Africa, over here the cost of licences and tags (if drawn or over the counter) are relatively cheap there is no $$$ trophy fees. The major hunt cost is what the outfitter charges. If he is confident that he can put his clients on to game and that the client can shoot the animal then thats ok. This is why in our recent Russian moose we stipulated that the balance will be paid IF the client pulls the trigger. If you are not confident dont shoot, but if you do then the outfitter has done his bit.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

I wish we had outfitters like you here in BC, with the no-bullshit "fair chase" attitude and an aversion to "spotter" planes!

I will be 65 by next season and even a lifetime in BC-AB mountains may not be enough to keep me hunting high due to major orthopaedic issues from age and old injuries, however, your way is the ONLY way to do it, as far as I am concerned.

tu2 +1 on that.

What I want is an opportunity, not a guarantee. Typically I find that when guarantees are part of the bargain some of the best opportunities are lost.

Two years ago I spent +/- $7k on an elk hunt near Yellowstone in Montana Didn't even see a bull in 8 days.
It was one of the best experiences this flatland southern boy can remember. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
