I'm going to be starting up some winter trapline safari's with predator calling to help pass the long winter days in interior alaska. Trips will be seven days long, staying in a nice lodge and running a 50-100 mile trapline each day for lynx, fox, coyote, beaver, marten, wolverine and wolf. Clients keep all the furs we catch and will be involved in making new sets, learning some skinning techniques, staring at the norther lights and doing some mid day predator calling in the heart of alaska! Snowmachines, meals, fuel, lodge and transporation from anchorage alask and back are included! Will be conducted in janurary of 2011. NEW PRICE is $5500 And yes, we can have some fun with the mountains and the snowmachines!! jake jefferson 7362 W. parks Hwy #381 Wasilla, AK 99654 www.blackriverhunting.com

That is unique and very innovative! I have never heard of such an opportunity though I have fantasized it many times when I was younger. Good luck on your venture. I look forward to seeing photos. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

In some hunting units, an Alaska trapping license allows a resident or non resident trapper to take an unlimited number of wolves by positioning themselves with a snowmachine in order to make a shot with a firearm. This broadly written rule allows for the running of wolves. It should go without saying that my word should be not taken as law and a hunter or trapper should investigate technique and legality for themselves. I have more than once wished I could offer the same kind of experience Fortyonesix is to my friends. I think it would be an absolute treat to stay in a nice cabin, ride all day and hunt furbearers. I have no idea where he's planning on taking potential clients but if so inclined there maybe even some ice fishing opportunities available. Sorry to but in, I just thought the offer sounded really neat and a familiar idea.

This sounds quite an interesting trip and a chance to learn something while having fun! A great concept in my book.

it'll be like a step back in time aside from the snowmachine and lodge...trappin' beavers under the ice, working poles sets for marten under the northern lights, looking for wolf kills and setting up on them in ambush, drinking coffee on the porch with the snow covered alaska range looming behind you... getting the chance to take home some spectacular well earned trophies and memories i garuntee your friends don't have!! ya i'm in...lets do it.

Just courious.... $7500 for 7 days? Over $1000 a day? Is that correct?
|

your math is good.... or, bring your own snowmachine, fuel, pay for the lodging and food, the land use fees and insurance, let me keep the furs and i'll cut you a sweeettt deal! oh ya and the traps....we'll need those too i think...

Don't get your panties in a knot. I just wanted to make sure the figures were correct. You can charge anything you want for a snowmachine ride, it's none of my business.

you seem to be makin' it your business with sligth and not to suttle sarcasm... but i understand where your coming from..i've seen stuff before with prices that just didn't seem real and until i got involved in the business i never fully understood why things are the way they are. panties aren't in a knot..not the first time by a long shot someones said something about a price tag... won't be the last i'm sure

Fourty, To the "average" guy from the city, etc...over $1,000 per day for what you offer does seem like a hell of alot of money, but with that said, I couldn't even guess what your expences are (and you do have to make a profit!) and what the clients furs will bring after the trip is done. It sounds like a great adventure and I'm sure that you will get guy's to do it with you. Good Luck!

This is a forum to offer hunts. If you guys don't like the prices or the hunts don't book it.

Guys, Seems like a neat idea to me. Since fourtyonesix's runsthe risk of a client wrecking his snow-go each of seven days it might be a bargain. I do think I would get in a supply of adult beverages as the nights in January will be far longer than the days. But the sun rises? Oh, my!!! Alaska in winter is incredibly beautiful but the cold looses its romance quite quickly if you live there and it just becomes miserable. A vacation visit at 20-30 below if you have not expereinced it would be a real hoot. Wolfgar, Scott King and I are friends eventhough he recently got married to cover up his weird sexual appetites. Probably like a lot of folks on this forum, I ran a trap line as a young boy (and even did a bit as a young man) ... caught mostly the nasty skunks but the occasional weasel and inadvertently stuff like jack rabbits, mice, a great horned owl and even a stupid cat once. Such a huge thrill for a ten or eleven year old boy when he approached the set and found a weasel ... Great memories ... the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys ... Running a trapline in Alaska - wow !!! Good on you to offer such an experience.

Hey Fourtyonesix; I like the way you think. In a down economy you got to think outside the box to make your business succeed. Looking forward to my Bear hunt in June.

416, to what degree would you be able to help in the marketing or selling of the furs?
|
One of Us |
could either sell them for the client or show them the websights to sell their own( be easier), put description tags on each hide so they know what they have...

I've lived enough in the North not to want to go again in January. Just a question, how much daylight is there that time of year where you guys are? When I lived in Fort McMurray around the 57th parrelel it was about 6.5 hours. It would be a very cool experience for someone from the south.
|

couple hours of daylight..but you don't need light to check traps...during the daylight we'd be out predator calling or hunting ptarmigan... its a crazy experience for someone who's only read about it and a chance to get some unique trophies your buddies don't have!

Neat deal Jake! I may offer something like this when I retire from my job. As a life long trapper, I don't think you are charging too much. Snowmachine's, gas, traps, etc. It all adds up. I am pretty sure I know where you'll base out of same as the spring bear hunt this year? If you need any help, drop me a pm on AOD. I always enjoy your posts!

Good for you Fourtyonesix, I've wanted to do this for years but never got it off the ground. Ran it by a booking agent I used once but that was a brick wall. I did book a couple wolf hunts years ago but that went away when they banned same day. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

just out of curiousity, what would you charge if you kept all the furs except one animal of my choice(maybe wolf, lynx or wolverine)? sounds like a lot of fun but i have no desire to collect a lot of pelts or fool with trying to sell them. I am an Alaskan who has been away from Alaska for a long time with the military. I day dream about doing exactly what Fourtymile is putting on when I retire in 3 years. I am 100% sure I would gladly pay $6500 if I had it laying around to go out with him. Just because while my Alaska state residency is figured out, I have zero family or personal infrastructure in Alaska. To me that is what your paying for. Not to mention his experience and knowledge. Here' some numbers I was thinking of to put his trips into terms. Per day guide fee average for Alaska $250-400 x 7 days $1750-2800 Value of a weeks worth of fur at auction 3 wolves $1200 1 wolverine $400 2 lynx $800 10 martin $500 4 beaver $200 total $3100 Plus the cost of food, cost of initial outfitting of snowmobiles, cabins, clothes, and fuel. I think it's a fair deal.

dropping the hunt price to $5500 have room to do two more trips for the jan/feb season of 2011!
