Pass It On! Outdoor Mentors raffling off a Hakuna Matada African safari hunt

August 23, 2022 in Sports
By Mark Shelton Dodge City Globe

When is impala hunting season? For the cost of a $25 raffle ticket, one lucky person and six of their friends can find out first hand in Africa, thanks to the latest Pass It On! Outdoor Mentors fundraising raffle.

That $25 ticket will turn into a six-day seven-night AmaThanda Hunting Safari worth $37,000.

The winner can choose to hunt two of these four exotic animal species: impala, warthog, blesbuck and nyala.

This kind of prey offers a new challenge for folks used to hunting pheasants, quail and deer.

Impalas aren’t just Chevrolet mid-sized sedans, they are medium-sized antelopes that weigh up to 200 pounds, along with blesbucks and nyalas.

The hunting party can set the date for their safari and will land at Or Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they will be treated to three meals daily, along with beverages, and provided access to qualified staff and all the equipment needed for their stay, said Outdoor Mentors Vice President Brittany French.

In addition to the safari hunt, participants can choose to experience an elephant encounter in an elephant sanctuary, which is “a must for any person with a love for Africa.”

A visit to a crocodile farm is also part of the package as well as a spa session for each member.

The non-profit Pass it On! Outdoor Mentors began as an effort on the part of Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks to bolster the ranks of hunters and fishers in 1999, and its members strive to connect kids with the great outdoors free of charge.

“Fundraising is very important to our program,” French said. “All proceeds will go towards our mission of getting more youth out hunting and fishing!

One thing we try to do is add a variety of raffles for the public to participate in. This African safari hunt is an excellent, top-rated opportunity with a very reputable company. We encourage everyone to take a look if they have been interested in traveling to Africa for a hunt!”

The cost of the flight and the services of a taxidermist are not included in the prize.

There are only 500 raffle tickets available.

To enter the raffle, visit the Pass It On! Outdoor Mentors website at www. outdoormentors.org.

A good cause, but $37,000 worth! I don't think so. More like $3,700.

Each of those hunts is worth maybe 5k retail.

Add in 2k for pick up and drop off and you are at maybe 18k

Didn’t see a single exotic animal listed.

I hope cello Kansans are not this gullible.

"one lucky person and six of their friends can find out..."

If it is for 7 hunters, then 7x$5,000 = $35,000.

Do all seven hunters get to shoot two of the animals listed? The description isn't very clear on that point. It also states, in the last sentence of the write up, that the Nayala is shown in the picture which is actually a Kudu.

In my humble opinion the $25.00 is for a good cause regardless of the safari value Cheers Luke

Sooo. 500 tickets @$25 a piece is $12500. For a hunt with a value of $37000.
If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

It is just amazing how other hunters just need to crap on everything. We all know the value is a top rate and you could find a better deal then 37,000.00 but you pay 25 for a chance.

really not that hard to figure out why they base the price though, 6 hunters take nyala at the going rate in someplaces 3000 x 6 then 6 impala at 450 then 6 people staying at 400 a night. Can you book a better deal sure you can, But win it for 25 and seems like a great hunt
