Folks,

Through a collaborative effort among Alan, Dan Sozzi aka DLS on AR and myself we've struck a deal for MEA to represent Alan Vincent in Tanzania on his Mlele concession going forward.

First, to be very upfront I have not hunted Mlele but Saeed has (see his recent hunt report). Saeed has a long history with the Vincents include many safaris with Roy and Alan Vincent.

Dan Sozzi also hunted Mlele this last season. He gave me almost daily WhatsApp updates during his hunt and all sounded very good. Dan too has a long history with the Vincent family starting in Zimbabwe with Roy Vincent.

Mlele is over 300,000 uninhabited acres in Western Tanzania. Altitude is around 5000 feet making it quite cool through most of the hunting season.

Mlele unlike a lot of Tanzanian areas does not require a very expensive charter. It can be easily reached via a regularly scheduled flight from Dar to Mpande the regional capitol $350 return. From Mpande it is about a 4 hour drive to camp with most of it being through a national park $300 return .

Mlele sounds like a buffalo paradise with lots of buffalo and big buffalo. Leopards are plentiful, big and unsophisticated but as in most areas early season is better. Sable, Lichenstein's hartebeest and all the normal Western Tanzanian species are there.

Mlele was previously Robin Hurt's area and had not been hunted for a few years until Alan took it over. Alan describes the game as very calm indicating that there had not been heavy poaching while it lay fallow.

Alan's pricing initially looks a little high but when you put a pencil on it Alan's buffalo hunt is not much different in cost than a good quality buffalo hunt in Zimbabwe as Alan's base prices include everything except trophy fees, transportation to from the area and hotels before/after the hunt as necessary.

The camp is of the best East Africa style. Double vanities in your tent with on demand hot & cold water and all the comforts as standard.

I Have a gorgeous 24 page brochure that Alan has put together that I can e-mail to anyone interested

Actually, Andrew, for a keen buffalo hunter it’s much more than just avoiding the charter where one can save and have an excellent hunt. 3 buffalo are allowed on a 16 day hunt, and the combined trophy fees for all 3 buffalo total $11,000. I think that’s a damn good value for 3 buffalo.

When you consider leopard and sable along with a chance at 3 buffalo on a 16- day hunt, I think Alan offers a fantastic opportunity for an excellent hunt at what is, by Tanzania standards, a very reasonable price.

Mlele has very healthy buffalo populations with an abundance of old Dugga Boys.

For buffalo and sable, I have not seen anything like Mlele in Tanzania, and I have hunted several places during many years.

Reminds me of Matetsi in Zimbabwe 40 years ago.

We had 22 buffalo on license last year.

All hunters got theirs, except for Walter, who did not manage to get two.

He got one.

And that to me was quite an achievement, for someone in his state of health.

Sounds good, as long as I don’t follow Saeed.

You won't.

Generally we are the last lot there.

Dan came over last year because he is a friend of all of us, and we were very happy to see him.

Our camp staff normally have a big smile on their faces as we arrive.

They have an even BIGGER smile as we leave!

They NEED some peace and quiet after putting up with us.

It saddens me to see what happens sometimes.

In the rare day when we decide to call it a day by lunch time - shooting 3 buffalo in the morning does that.

I would take my camera and go to the staff quarters, as soon as one sees me coming, a shout goes out, warning everyone that I am in camp and they need to be on their toes!

Very sad indeed, as I have never played any nasty tricks on any of them.

They do it themselves!

Alan's staff are the friendliest one could find, and despite all the years we have hunted with them, they never seem to realize that our lot are a bit different.

In a funny way.

More like the mental asylum funny way! clap

After you and your crew, I’m sure we will be welcomed by the staff with open arms. That’s not my worry.

What worries me is that buffalo with PTSD are more difficult to hunt.

Mike,

You will be amazed as we are too, how nice and friendly the buffalo are to me.

Take last year for instance.

Poor Pete Wadellow spent ten days trying to find a couple of buffalo for Walter.

They only managed to get one, and Walter was so scared he actually shot it in the foot!

Then poor Pete spent another ten days trying to find two buffalo for Maktoum.

They managed to get their second one on our last day!

Now you would imagine that I have been hunting buffalo for so long, they might have gotten the idea to get out of my way.

Not a chance!

Twice, we were driving along when our driver stops, and points to a bull standing by the side of the road.

Totally ignoring us.

I jump out of the truck and shoot both.

And the one that takes the cake was my last buffalo.

We started following a herd, and walking down a valley, out comes an old bull walking straight towards us, a few yards away.

I had to shoot him in the head quickly before e comes over to say hello!

Roy did not even have time to turn his camera on!

Buffalo and me are very good friends clap
