Saeed, I apologise if this is in the wrong place.

Please move it to a more appropriate topic area if neccessary.

Robert and I have been corresponding with this person via emails over the past couple of weeks, do not know if he got our information off AR or not.

This is the latest piece of correspondence, and I feel that it needs to be presented to other outfitters/guides/PH's as an FYI.

Yea we are checked and decided to pick the 10th Jan ,Early this Morning I Got an Email from the Travel Agent in charge of my child travel Arrangement to confirm his flight booking, which should be ready before the arrival date and he's also making an arrangement on how to check-in his luggage before the arrival date as well. I should have given him my credit card to charge for ticket fare but he told me that he doesn't have the facilities to charge the credit card for the payment.
So, the principal help I want from you is to assist me to charge another $1500 on my credit card for the travel agent to complete the booking of the flight imminently. After the fund is being charged from my credit card, it will be transferred to him via Western Union, while the money will be deducted from my credit card account. Any additional charges attracted to it will be paid by me.
Furthermore, you should charge an extra fund of $30 for the Western Union Transfer Fee and other miscellaneous fee involved. Please, I'm not making this compulsory but I just want you to help me out on this to make everything done before the travel date as it's fast Approaching.
BELLOW OS MY CREDIT CARD DETIALS I Want You To Slipt Charge On Both Cards Amount to be charged Hunt Deposit Fee Traveling Agent Fee ($1500), Fee involved ($30)

Name On card: ***************
Card Type : Master Card

Name On card: **********
Card Type : Master Card
Card Number: 5291497357450886
Card Expire date: 02/2012

After the charges has been made i want you to proceed and Remit the Travel Agent Balance to the Travel Agent company head office so that the flight Date can be effective...
Thanks

I have the persons name filed back, so if any of you have received such inquiries, feel free to contact me thru the AR mail, and I can supply you with that information.

Maybe I am just being paranoid in my old age, but this appears to be a scam in my opinion.

He is obviously only trying to help someone else not get scammed, but I probably would have x'ed out some numbers.

Credit card number means absolutely nothing without a name to it.

It is totally worthless.

Saeed, I have the guys name saved back and we are looking at where to report it to some kind of legal authority.

wyoske and mho, I am just passing along information to see if other folks have had this situation happen to them.

Your concerns (?) about what information I placed in my post, mean nothing at all to me, since this person is engaged in an obvious illegal activity.

I am just trying to get some information out to people, because the name being used might change, but the same card numbers might show up under another identity.

Since neither of you were the ones trying to be scammed, then what information I gave has absolutely nothing to do with you as far as I can tell

Where we are if the name does NOT match the card number, no one honours it.

Wow, what a genius you are, in your original post you said I do not know if he got our information off of AR or not. Then you post someone elses CC number here? You are an idiot of the first degree.

Crazy,

Regardless of name calling etc I would be very suspicious of this. Skyline says he rec'd the same thing and to me the structure of the sentences is very odd. The whole thing reeks of a scam.

I instantly took it for a scam and deleted it because the whole think is worded oddly.

I have heard of these credit card scams before and in the end the person giving the info always wants money returned to them while using the business they approach to run the card through the system for funds in the first place.

The internet is filled with scam artists, crooks and rude people........as shown on this thread. There is no need for the ridiculous way some you speak to others. Tells me you are an ass in real life.

What I can't believe is that some apparently have actually entertained the idea that the scammer requesting charges, Western Union transfer, etc. is anything but a fraud. A brief look at the poor grammar, the ridiculous request for help with a credit card which anyone with internet access would know how to use, the mention of Western Union which is a favorite of scammers, etc. should tell one this.

While I totally understand what you are getting at Grumulkin.......I live in an area with people who are not very computer savvy and for that matter they are people who still do business with a handshake and just don't run into scam artists let alone know what to look for on the internet. Heck most of them still think it is mind blowing to e-mail people and they are working with very basic PC's on dial-up.

Not everyone out there has the attitude that everything on the internet is suspect and should be taken with a grain of salt, because they have not been on it enough to become jaded.

Crazy,
It is a scam, you may have a card number and a name but I assure you both of them are made up. Just throw it all away, I've gotten the same thing in a different format before.
The last line is where the theft occurs, you send the money to the travel agent(who is probably the guy doing the scam) and then the credit card that you ran for the money will be denied and your out the 1500 you sent to the "travel agent"

Many Thanks for everyones input, even wyoske's, and I am not an idiot of any degree.

I posted what I did, simply to show that the criminal element in our society as a whole, continues to look for new avenues to ply their trade.

The first few emails we received from this person seemed fairly legitimate, until we received this one.

Robert had forwarded a copy to me, becauise he knew something was not right about the whole deal.

I merely confirmed that with him, and simply passed on the information to others in the business end of the hunting community.

What I find disturbing about comments such as wyoske's, is an apparent reluctance to want such information revealed in a public venue, and then to attack the messenger and libel them.

Hey Crazyhorse. Don't worry about the badmouthing you got ealrier in the thread. As Saeed said, the details are worthless without a name anyway.
I frequently receive enquiries from scammers. They say right out that they want to book a trip and they will pay with a credit card (they never ask for details about the trip!). Similar scam is that they deliberately over pay and ask you to send the excess urgently by Western Union. If the victim sends the excess quickly, that's their payoff because a few days later the credit card company says it's refused the whole payment.

In addition to the card #, exp date, Cvv #.
My provider requires the address #s, PO #s or the five digit zip code.
Name is not required.

Howdy,

Each amchine and each service provider have different needs to verify a CC transaction. Up until 3 months ago I had a very old machine. Around 9 years I believe, and all it required was the card number and the experation date and the transaction would go through. Then an unlucky lightning strike burned it up and I had to get a new one. This one requires a matched zip code, 3 digit security # and the digits of the persons address but does not require a name.
