Well guys, If you have dreamt of a McNab in Scotland I thought I would see if we can make an event out of it. For those that don't know it is the attempt to catch a Salmon, Shoot a Stag and kill a brace of grouse between sunrise and sun set of the same day. It is a great way to experience the Scottish Highlands and makes for an awesome social event. We would need a group of 6 hunters for a week. Each hunter would get 2 chances to attempt a Mcnab on dedicated days and the others will either walk up grouse or fish for the day. If you get a fish after the morning cut off time (about 9-30 am) we will have a keeper available to run you up to the hill in an attempt to complete the challenge for you even if you are not one of the pair trying on that day. Likewise if you get your stag and a brace of grouse early enough we will get you onto the river to try and get a fish on the evening session. Hunt: Scottish McNab Proposed Dates: 3rd to 10th September 2017 Outfitter: Athina Hunting Tours Location: Royal Deeside, Scotland Arrival & Departure Point: Aberdeen Airport Price: £5,500 Availability: 6 McNab Spaces plus observers or other sport Your hunt will include Two days dedicated Mcnab attempts 1x1 Fishing on the two McNab mornings and on the remainder of the days if desired A walked up day of grouse shooting based on 15 brace per day, (group based on 4-6 guns) The standby Keeper to move you around the estate during the challenge A weeks accommodation in a Victorian Hunting Lodge Fully catered for breakfast, packed lunch and dinner in the house by in house chef. Seems that the hardest part of the McNab would likely be getting the salmon, correct?

Yes indeed. The salmon is the tough bit and very weather dependent. However we have a dedicated ghillie with a large stretch of two rivers (The Dee and The Don) to try and maximise chances. This really is a challenge but therin lies the fun. If you manage to get the fish early then you have a good chance. I should add that we fish with double handed Spey style fly rods. If anyone needs any help with the technique we can assist with that too and I may be able to get an experienced instructor in for the week if needed. Let me know if you have any other questions. One of the most wonderful weeks of sport I ever enjoyed was deer stalking in the highlands. A day on Pitmain Estate is one I'll never forget. If you've never been to Scotland, I highly recommend you give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

DLS, indeed it is an awesome experience and one that everyone should experience in some form. This week gives all the participants two full days of stalking on the hill and the remainder of the days to experience the rest of the sporting offerings Scotland has to offer, in an amazing setting. Is there room for a spouse to accompany and watch if so what is the additional fee ? Are stags priced by horn length ? Forgive my ignorance the price is in what denomination. Cheers, Tom

Hi Twilli No worries, they are all good questions. The cost for a Spouse is £1500 for the week to include everything bar the shooting and fishing. The stags are a fixed price. You should know that in Scotland you will not be trying to shoot the biggest stags in the herd. You are probably looking at shooting 8-10 pointers that are past useful breeding age or have an abnormality in the genetics of the antler. The Ghillie will choose your stag and tell you which one to shoot as it forms part of the management practices of the estate. The pricing is in British pounds. Best regards, Kiri

I should also add that should anyone wish to shoot large trophy stags, these are available in the low ground park with stags running up to 20+ points available. More details are available on request Rgds, K

Twilli, most highlands stags are, as fallow buck says, smaller than those giant stags you occasionally see pictures of. The focus is on the sporting aspect of deer stalking in the highlands and the overall experience. It's Great sport. I'll never forget hunting on Airlie (sp?) estate and looking across with a telescope (it was a telescoping brass scope, not a spotting scope most of us think of)to the neighboring estate and seeing a fellow who looked remarkably like Prince Charles. The game keeper just smiled and told me we were on the boundary of Balmoral, the Queens Estate. It isn't about the size, it's about the memories.

Stalking Stags in the Scottish highlands is a wonderful experience. DLS mentioning the Brass telescope brings back fond memories. Being able to do a Mcnab is a bonus.
