We still have a few open spots during the Rut for red stag in Bulgaria. I have to say that Bulgaria has probably the best red stag hunting for truly wild free range red stags. I have hunted in Romania as well and I can say that there is no comparison. The organisation, lodges etc are all very nice in Bulgaria. The outfitter I work with has access to the best areas in Bulgaria and the hunting is truly superb.

Getting there: There are several flight from major cities in Europe to Sofia. From there the lodges are 3.5 to 4 hours drive.

Taking rifles is not a problem, just need the usual rifle details.

The hunt itself is a very gentlemanly hunt and can be tailored for all age groups and for hunters in any physical condition. The weather at that time of the year is typical fall weather, we hunted with a fleece jacket in the early mornings and T shirts later on!

Typically you have a coffee and a biscuit and head off while its still dark and return around 1030 for a full breakfast. After that its time to relax or have a nap before lunch, which can then be followed by another nap before leaving for the evenings hunt around 330pm. The hunting is spot and stalk and you can hear the stags roaring all around you. You can also hunt from a box blind if you wish. The guides know the areas very well and have done a lot of pre-scouting so typically know where the stags are.

Good shooting is still required as the stags are moving in heavy timber!

A great experience over all.

After the rut middle of October, red stag can still be hunted from blinds etc. The fallow rut starts around middle of October and then after that it is time for big boar.
