My name is Jim Welles. I own and operate JFW Ranch Consulting, LLC, with my wife Kelly at 10600 Eagle Rock Ave, Albuquerque, NM 87122. My phone number is 505.294.7861. Our e-mail address is JFWRC@comcast.net. I have been a registered outfitter in NM for 17+ years.
We just secured the rights to the 45,000 deeded acre Lobo Ranch located 1 hour west of Albuquerque on the SE slopes of Mt. Taylor. We are honored to have this ranch to offer NM Bull Elk Hunting. Although the ranch receives in excess of 50 Mature Bull and Archery (ES) landowner authorizations, management of the LOBO is conservatively hunting only 11 total bulls on this ranch. We will be offering up to 4 fully outfitted 6 day archery hunts at $5,950 + tax and license; 4 either muzzy or rifle fully outfitted 5 day hunts in early October at $6,450 + tax and license, and 3 later season rifle hunts. The later season 5 day elk hunts ($5,500 + tax and license)can be combined with mule deer or barbary or both at $1,500 ea. The lodging on this ranch is first class. . The modern lodge is complete with satellite TV and internet. All meals are included in the package as is transport to and from Albuquerque International Airport. The hunts do not have to be scheduled in the order mentioned above. If you prefer to have a larger group, we can accommodated your needs. Archery hunt dates are expected to start around the 17th of September. Rifle or muzzy can start either October 1 or October 15 depending on weapon type selected. We can accommodate a muzzy mobility impaired hunt October 6th. The NR license is $633.
I will be posting pictures following this introduction.
We tried to talk to the past lessee of the ranch who also grazed livestock as a package. We could never get in touch. We did talk to Hap Blackston, Baldy Mountain Outfitters, who had the ranch 3 years ago. He liked the place, although, it was a bit far from his main operation in NE NM. He indicated he had it for 15 bulls and went 100% with all but 3 being sixby's in the 250-300 range with the biggest being 315. Hope this helps.

Talked to a local guide yesterday and let him know we had The Lobo now. He had guided a deer hunter on the place 2 years ago and said he had a blast. He was there in early November. Although they did not get a buck, he said he'll never forget the 2 bucks he ran into that got away.....and this guy would know...easy 190-200 inchers. He also was amazed at the number of bulls.....he indicated the saw a least 3 that were min 320 and pushing 330. I was glad to hear that report. If anyone would like to talk to him....let me know. Jim

MOA-This is our first year on the Lobo as an outfitter. We had a small operation on the adjoining ranch a few years back. At this point it is a 1 year lease. If we like each other more to come.
The elk season on this ranch is any five day period between Oct 1 and Dec 31 on 40k acres. Dates are restricted to concurrent timeframes with public hunts on unit 9 on the 5K acres on top. Weapon type restrictions apply on top as well, e.g. muzzy only. Thanks for the questions. Jim

DEW-sorry for the delay, Kelly and I have been out chasing turkey.
With regard to your question, this ranch is located in unit 9 and from what I read in the rule book, there is no season for January deer.....bummer and thanks for asking.
UPDATE We are willing to pay for each of the state elk licenses and game licenses for a party of 4 that will come October 1. The inclusion of the all state licenses is an effective savings of $633/person for a non-resident. AND, we will do the same for any bowhunters that book for Sept 16-21.
Thanks AR. Jim

5 tags correct? I may know a few guys that want to hunt down there.
“The greatest happiness is to scatter your enemy before you, to see his cities reduced to ashes, hearing the old ones wail, to see those who love him shrouded in tears, and to gather into your bosom his wives and daughters, while riding his gelding.” Genghis Khan
Cheshire-We have 9-11 openings right now. I have 2 folks considering Oct 20 right now. 4 is a comfortable number to be on the place at one time. However, it has the capability for 5 or six no sweat. Folks will have the ability to hunt bear and lion with a trophy fee. We can combo a deer on a Nov 10 hunt and we could combo a barbary as well at any time. Thank for your reply. Jim
