I am off to Zim in a couple of days for a buff hunt and a problem has reared it's ugly little head. For reasons that are lengthy and convoluted I will arrive in jnb without ammo.

One would assume that ammo could be obtained in jnb and continue to Bulawayo for the rest of the adventure. Failing that, maybe ammo could be purchased in Zim. Are there problems with this situation that need to be addressed?? My rifle is a 404 jeffery. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Limpopo Arms in jnb had .404j when I was there in Nov. You might call 0110784085321 and ask.

As I understand things if you plan on buying ammo in RSA you must show your SAPS permit for a rifle in that caliber in order to purchase the ammo.

If you are planning to overnight in Joberg you'll have to go through the SAPS permit BS anyway so make sure you bring your gun permit with you when you go to the store. If you're checking you guns through to your final destination without a layovr in Joberg I think you'll have problems purchasing ammo without the SAPS permit.

Why don't you just see if your PH can obtain some, in the destination country, for you prior to your arrival?

Why not just leave your rifle at home and use a camp rifle/ammo that I am sure most PH's can provide? No ifs, ands or buts, problem solved. Taking a rifle and depending on finding ammo along the way, not knowing what it is or if it will shoot well in your rifle seems a little off the wall. JMHO. Good luck with what ever works out and have a good hunt.

Wrong forum but if I had your problem, I'd do as Larry suggests or at least switch to a .458 or .375.

I also don't understand how you're going to get there with a rifle without ammo with at least 2 days notice? Why don't you just buy some from Midway or other online supplier and get overnight delivery?

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.
