I have been told I don't need a battery of shots for a hunt for plainsgame this June in Namibia. However, some say I should get the tetanus and Hepatitis vacines. You folks who have hunted Namibia, what has experience shown you is necessary? Thanks

Where in Namibia are you hunting? For the most part you will be covered with Polio, Tetnaus and Hepatitis. You can check the CDC website for their recommendations. http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/de...amibia.aspx#vaccines Jim

I was in Namibia last june and all you need is the Tetnaus, Hep A&B and the Polio booster. If you aer going to the North around Etosha take anti malaria meds with you. When we were there it was down into the low 20's at night and never much above 75 in the daytime. We were just northwest of Okahanja for 2 weeks from June 15th to July 2nd Steve(NOT Shakari)Robinson NRA Life Member SCI Life Member DRSS

I will be in the area (South of Etosha), from second week of April. Will only need to have a valid Yellow Fever shot, in my vacination card. Do not know why. Work to live...live to Hunt....

??? Yellow Fever for Namibia? You sure about that? Are you traveling through a Yellow Fever area on your way to Namibia? "...Africa. I love it, and there is no reason for me to explore why. She affects some people that way, and those who feel as I do need no explanation." from The Last Safari

Uh-oh. Sounds like you've been to a "travel clinic". Those people never saw a shot you didn't need. Or a vaccination that they couldn't charge you four times the price charged by your family doctor's office.

This comes right from the CDC website: "Although yellow fever is not a disease risk in Namibia, the government requires travelers arriving from countries where yellow fever is present to present proof of yellow fever vaccination. If you will be traveling to one of these countries where yellow fever is present before arriving in Namibia, this requirement must be taken into consideration. See Yellow Fever Vaccine Requirements and Information on Malaria Risk and Prophylaxis, by Country for more information."

clinics in usa often don't know what you need in some coutry's so they load you up with anything and everything.

True -- one of the main reasons to consider Yellow Fever Vaccine is if for mechanics, delay, connection or some other reason your scheduled direct flight to Windhoek had to land in some other country with Yellow Fever. Might cause problems then when you do land in Windhoek. Granted, chance of that is minute, but still there. My kinda luck it would happen to me, but for some strange this has not happened to me yet in two trips. I still keep the Vaccine current though, too much at steak for my taste, Waidmannsheil, Dom. -------- There are those who only reload so they can shoot, and then there are those who only shoot so they can reload. I belong to the first group. Dom ---------

Folks, This topic comes up often and there is one simple answer regardless of what coutry your safari takes you to. Go to the CDC website and get their recommended shots etc. for whatever country you are going to. Trying to minimize shots, malaria prophylaxis etc is just insanity. Is getting something really nasty worth saving a few bucks? Mark MARK H. Thanks Guys. I appreciate the input. I believe I will get the tetanus and Hepatitis A & B. Namibia seems to be a little less threatening than a lot of areas in Africa.

Mark is spot on... although I hate shots,, and any needles,,, a vaccination to prevent serious illnes,, and a ruined hunt of a life time is truly insanity to not be prepared. I read here where guys whine tremendosuly while paying a 100 dollars hit on overweight luggage on a 50 grand hunt,,, what the heck?>?? Take every shot you can, it boosts the entire immune system anyway, and can safe guard you from painting the country side with butt blast , vomit and miserable hunting..... Take what ever "might" be needed. , yep I am a doc who is a sissy for shots as well ,,, but I take them... be prepared,, buy evacuation medical insurance and then go have a blast. drwes you can make more money, you can not make more time
