At DFW flying to Gainesville, Florida (or trying to) a female passenger is raising hell with the American gate agents because there was another lady in the gate area “not wearing her mask correctly”. This lady made such a scene that they put her on another flight, she insisted the gate agent remove everyone and sanitize the gate area and if he didn’t he would be responsible for killing people. Glad she didn’t make our flight! I bet that sort of thing happens quite a bit.
On the bright side, DFW was very slow, we were the only passengers at the American check in counter and it took less than 3 minutes to check in with firearms and ammo. Also, we were the only two passengers when we went thru TSA.

Mnnyeah, no way I would fly commercially period in these times.

Reasons abound due to: Psychotics like the person you witnessed, filthy recycled cabin air, nasty toilets, the idiotic TSA, shoulder to shoulder seating and horrid to nonexistent customer service.

nilly

Edit:

COVID spread around the world because of commercial flights.

I drive if I have to go somewhere.

Anyone else tired of using COVID as an excuse for not doing something? Was recently on a Southwest flight and they said, due to COVID, they are only serving water. I asked, if they can serve cans of water, why can’t they serve cans of Coke? I was not given an answer, just a dumb look. Covid has been around for a year, and they can’t figure it out yet. Maybe, they don’t want to.

To further add to your flying experience, American (and I’m sure the rest of them, too) is strictly following CDC guidelines for masks...no singly ply, no gaiters, no paper masks. They gave masks to those passengers whose mask didn’t pass muster (yes, one of them was me). Also, if a passenger refuses to wear the proper mask, they will be removed from the plane if it is still on the ground and will be barred from flying on American Airlines. Bet the others are the same way. Fun times to fly.

Jon, no hog hunt, but a quail hunt for two hunters that I bought last year in the SCI “Share the Impact” initiative to support outfitters. However...I did invite Larry as the second hunter Wink

Just what type of mask was it that you were given?

I, along with about 10 others, was given a simple white 2 ply cloth mask, just like one can buy at any pharmacy. I’ll be buying a couple prior to my return flight that are larger, though. If this is like most other “requirements” I suspect enforcement will vary by airline and cabin crew, but I will continue to follow the guidelines.

I was walking to work the other morning and someone got offended that I didn't have a mask on outside 300 yards from anyone.

I hate America these days, but I am sure that it is going on everywhere now.

Yes, more than you can imagine. I am not against taking reasonable precautions and wearing a ask. However, I refuse to live
my life be paranoid about "what if's".

I have been building a house since June. Talk about a pain. I know, I know I should not be complaining but every delay with building
materials has been blamed on Covid or fires. Perhaps much of it is justified, I do not know for certain.

I am just thankful for where I live. We are open for business (with some limitations). It seems every time that my in-laws call my
wife and my wife mentions that we were out to eat, the always respond "you have restaurants that are open"? They act shocked about it.

Strange times.......

New Mexico has rolling black outs of opening and shutting of dining places. Most you can pick up food to go but can not dine in. Some had tents, but even those have been mostly shut down.

The fucking teachers and their unions in New Mexico(no Offense to to you Jason P my friend) here are completely dogshit. They haven't been to work since March.

We suffered through a month of March where they absolutely sucked the life out of my kids via a 15 minute zoom with all the kids losing their shit. All the while the teacher tried to read a child's book in the background and then said she or he (both kids teachers played the same bullshit game) would say "see you in the morning" where they would repeat the process. This was for Kindergarten and 3rd grade.

Within 2 weeks we had registered with the state to teach our own kids. My wife is a K-12 certified teacher with a masters in education, and because she is still at home with our 5 year old we were lucky. Or rather our kids were lucky. I paid $3500 out to Bob Jones University in curiculum and our kids have never done better. The 7 year old is reading at a 10 year old level, and the 9 year old is mastering multiplication and division. We even shelled out the sheckels for the 5 year old to get her own hour or two of Bob Jones a day, and she knows everything a first grader does.

We got excited about the kids doing school in August, and got them registered. They played the game for a week and we fired the two slugs that we were assigned for my older kids, and went back to Bob Jones and the homeschool routine. The only upside was that they were slightly better at "teaching" in August. With a slightly amplified version of the same bullshit where the teachers would give out a months worth of homework in a week, and then spend 50 minutes per day via zoom online with the kids.

The 5 year old needs to be in some kind of classroom in August of this year for 10 weeks to have a report card. She was born late (in August) and has a screwed up birthday for school registrations. So we held her back to start this year.

15 years from now the 15-18 year old kids that got screwed by this pandemic (and mostly the teachers unions) will still be working at the car wash changing out air fresheners.

It sucks to not have her working, but she wasn't working anyway so it didn't really matter.

If you have school aged kids and a family member that can teach them they are better off doing that then living through zoom and dealing with bullies.

Tons of kids here in New Mexico have committed suicide during this pandemic.

Your wife is at home with a 5, 7 & 9 year old and is working her butt off. Just not getting paid for the work she is doing.

I really do not think you would be able to fill her shoes on your best day.

You owe that lady an apology.

This past July I made several trips from Denver to Minneapolis ferrying grandkids back and forth to our annual 'Gramp Camp'. I wore a gaiter on all but one flight no problem. Then I encountered the 'mask Nazi' cabin crew gal that said my gaiter wasn't proper. She gave me a generic rinky-dink mask that I have problems with as the behind the ear elastic bands tend to launch my hearing aids to God-knows-where.

So yes, cabin crews make a difference.

BWW, I agree the school situation in NM has really sucked for the last year. We might be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel here in SE NM. My kids are supposed to go back 2 days a week next week.
You must not be in SE NM if someone is accosting you for being outside without a mask. We tend to be more libertarian thinkers in this part of the state and have not drunk the Kool-Aid that the governor is serving.
My wife has taken the brunt of the work teaching my 2 kids. It is a hard job.

NM has been at the bottom on next to last in education for years. Thank God my kids are grown. Now the Cabrona Virus and MLG conspire to see how bad they can make it. I blame MLG for allowing the entire state to become even worse than it has ever been. Oh yeah, I was asked in the local grocery store where my mask was. I replied that I was there to "buy groceries, not to rob the place." You should have seen the look I got.

She is living her best life, ask her and she will tell you the same.

I am not a teacher, so this is probably true.

You kind of twisted my words there. It wasn't meant as an insult to my wife. Kind of not cool to speak about someone else's wife either.

She is in her 40's and has not contributed to her retirement in 10 years, and she had only worked professionally for the 3 prior to our marriage.

This was the intent what I wrote. Maybe it wasn't clear.

A bit of an update (for American Airlines, anyway) a multi-ply mask is acceptable and apparently that includes paper masks. Also, American is dead serious about enforcement, too. Prior to takeoff from Gainesville, the guy behind me was talking on his cell phone (loudly I might add) with his mask hanging from one ear, flight attendant jumped his butt and said “not going to ask, you’ll be off this plane if you don’t wear mask correctly”. I’m OK with that. Gun case “alerted” during X-ray and TSA had to open and check contents, TSA officer checked and turned case around so I could see and asked if he put everything back as it was. And Buzz’s book caused an inspection of my carryon, TSA guy said hardcover books in slip case are difficult to examine on X-ray, OK with that, too.

I am getting tired of companies using it for poor customer service due to personnel working remotely. My thought if they haven't figured it out by now is that either they don't know what they are doing or their personnel aren't actually working.

Oh, but now the CDC says we should all wear TWO masks, one over the other. Hell, if two are good, why not wear five, or eight. FFS, this crap has gone way beyond ridiculous.

No offense taken BWW and I compliment you and your family taking charge of the situation.

It is absolutely ridiculous what is happening. Teachers should be in classroom. I would
much rather be with my students in person. It is so much better for them, especially their mental health!

So our county Don'a Anna in New Mexico's school superintendent (queen cuntasaurus rex of this calamity) put out an email on Friday that our county will only have 5% of the teachers returning in 3 weeks, and zoom teaching will continue. The other 75% of these worthless cunts will not come back to work, even if they are given the fucking vaccine, and 20% said they'd come back to work if given the vaccine.

So why aren't they firing them?

If I called my boss and told him I wasn't coming back to work for nothing and everything would be telework from now on, he'd fire me.

I have been told that the teachers in Europe that work for the Department of Defense have either been told get your ass to work or your fired. What a wonderful world they live in.

Professionally I inspect buildings and construction sites for the government for safety. I have yet to go in a child care center, police station, fire department, construction site, or anything else that requires you to be at the job site and found it empty because all these wonderful humans are taking their job seriously and making America great.

Versus the worthless pieces of shit in this county working for the schools that are not working for our children.

It wouldn't be so bad if the child care workers didn't have to take up the slack. How does a Mexican American gal who may or may not have barely graduated from high school teach a 3rd grader contractions?

I am very luck that my wife and I can afford to purchase curiculum and have the time and education to keep our kids ahead of drowning world outside. The neighbor kids are having a hell of a time. A coworkers son ( a 12 year old) killed himself because of this situation.

The American child care workers that have been forced into becoming default elementary teachers are absolute saints.

Yeah, for sure!

The issue I have found JTEX is that many of the teachers (IMO) have never worked a regular job. I am glad I did not get started until I was 30. It made me appreciate how good teachers actually have it!
