Emirates to RSA from Phoenix via Seattle
I came across a very nice fare from Phoenix to Johannesburg via Emirates Airlines. There were a few routes getting to Dubai to choose from. Jet Blue to Boston, Jet Blue to JFK and Alaska Airlines through Seattle. I chose the Seattle route as I know Alaska Airlines is gun friendly, and I hope Seattle is too as I'm sure they ferry many Alaska bound hunters through their airport.

I spoke to Alaska Airlines on the phone regarding the transport of firearms and subsequent transfer to Emirates. The lady was actually quite friendly and seemed knowledgeable which was nice for a change. She highly recommended claiming our luggage in Seattle and rechecking with Emirates. This seems to make total sense and is my plan.

I was just wondering if anyone else has gone this route or a similar situation in flying to another American airport on another airline and transferring at that point to Emirates. If so, do you concur with this plan?

Hey,

I flew to Dar es Salaam in October. From Here at Sky Harbor, its a bit tricky. I flew American to Dallas, had to collect my firearms and walk to the Emirates check in counter, not a big deal. I think I took a bus maybe?

I checked in, had the letter of permission and all was good. Dallas, Dubai, wonderful flight in a super comfortable plane. Longish layover in Dubai but the lounge is world class. Its probably 8-9 hours to Joburg from Dubai, as it was 6 and change to Dar.

I'm sure you'll have zero problem with your route.

Steve

I will for sure use Emirates again.

Thank you Steve. Sounds like the same deal but swapping Seattle for Dallas.

Frostbit did this similar route last year. It was also during 4457 export permit debacle. All went well. Check with him!
