Hello All,

I'll be flying to South Africa in July. Is there anything new I need to be aware of with regards to transporting my guns? I know about the expiration date on the 4457 form, just wondering if there's some other permit ect. that I need. My PH/outfitter will be handling getting the import permits ready for me.

Also any suggestions on which airlines are "friendly" towards hunters flying with guns? I'll be flying out of Washington DC area, most likely from Dulles.

Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Longfeather

Prepare yourself for a LONG wait especially on return -- TSA is terrible about taking their time making sure you are not bringing terrorist material into the USA. Also, the paperwork/electronic aspect has taken over for actual counting of ammo, inspecting rifles are unloaded, and so on from 2007 trip. Your agent has likely handled much of what used to be couriered in paper form. Use a meet-and-greet service!
(I'll PM you my take on the last trip. I sent my travel agent feedback upon returning from Port Elizabeth --> Jo'burg --> Dulles --> Houston in October of 2018.)

Delta Airlines for me. Big Grin As to the most up to date information on traveling with firearms, I always use Steve Turner of Travel With Guns. Steve and his people make all of my travel arrangements and they cover everything from A to Z. Worth it for the peace of mind. tu2

Longfeather,

Rely on the experts and the folks that are up to date on all things Africa with guns related. Use Gracy Travel or Travel With Guns. The fee they charge will be more than made up for in the piece of mind you'll have.

Best advice there is.

And do not forget our own Kathy here too.

She has booked and dealt with all our friends from the US before and she did an abs fantastic job.
