We'll be a hunting party flying BA over Heathrow and Johannesburg to Port Elisabeth in june.

Since we're taking our own weapons with us, I'm a little bit nervous.

Last year we flew BA to Cape Town and were pleased, both about the luggage handling as well as the formalities with SAPS.

Should this itinerary be as smooth?

Fredrich,

Personally I'd use a service like Air 2000 to assist with transfer to your commuter to PE and all the SAPS/customs stuff. Having used BA before you know the efficiency of their gun handling and you'll find it that way again I'm sure. BA is my preferred carrier to Africa always.

I agree with Mark. I fly BA or AA whenever possible.

Are there any issues with transiting England with your firearms?

Only if you transfer between airports, when you'll need to use a firearms courier. If you do, I can recommend Ron Wharton at bunduki. - Send me a PM if you need his contact details.

If you travel BA, you should note that they need 3 days notice of your travelling with sporting firearms. I'd recommend you ask your travel agent to enter the phrase 'travelling with sporting firearms' into the comments section of the booking and that you get that, in a hard copy and take it with you when you travel. Not the phrase 'sporting firearms'. If you don't use this exact phrase, an awkward/anti hunting check in agent could possibly refuse to allow the firearm to travel.

Get it right and you shouldn't have any problems.

No problem! Our travel agent already asked the details about the rifles, and we are just passing through Heathrow and Jo'burg. The weapons remain in transit at Heathrow ...
