Heavy rains expected today Chronicle Reporter THE Meteorological Services Department has warned members of the public that there is a potential of heavy rains falling across the country starting from today. The department said the rains could be in excess of 50mm in 24 hours. In a statement yesterday, the department warned the public of a risk of localised flooding in low-lying areas principally along the main watershed. “The rains are eventually expected to weaken in the southern provinces by Sunday but will remain rather active in the Mashonaland provinces and parts of Midlands,” said the department. The department said it would continue monitoring the weather and issue necessary updates. An officer at the Met Office in Harare who spoke on condition of anonymity said the northern parts of the country are already experiencing thunderstorms as a result of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone along the Zambezi Basin. He said the southern parts of the country covering Matabeleland provinces and parts of Midlands would today experience heavy localised rains as a result of a cloud system that is moving from Botswana into Zimbabwe. I am leaving on Mar 17, will be in VF and on Western end of Lake Kariba. I will be doing some fishing for Tigers as well as hunting birds, so I don't much care if it rains!
