Folks: Just locked in a tuskless and leopard hunt for 2011 in Zim. Depending on the PH's schedule I might have to fly into and out of either Harare; Bulawayo or Vic Falls. As this my first visit to Zim I need to get some pointers from those with vast prior experience as to what might be the: (i) good places to stay; (ii) restaurants/bars; (iii) things to do including shopping assuming I take a full day or two particularly on my way back to the US.

Have not overnighted in Harare or Bulawayo other than with people I have hunted with. However,if in Vic Falls I would highly recommend staying at the Ultimate Lodge owend by Russel Caldecott. Russelll caters to hunters and runs a class operation. I have stayed there many times and have nothing but good things to say in regards to my stays.

Shikaribabu, I'll second what peashooter says. If you're going to Vic Falls then The Ultimate Lodge is THE place to stay. You'll love Russell's lodge and Russ himself. You don't say what time of year you'll be hunting, but you should ask Russell about a day or two of fishing on the Zambezi above the falls. Whatever you decide to do in Vic Falls, you won't regret staying at the Ultimate Lodge. Dale

In Harare: Meikles, or, Pangolin Lodge; two completely different venues-Meikles is in town and Pangolin out in the suburbs. these are my suggestions.

If you fly into Harare 1. Miekles Hotel is the place to stay. It is in the city but a fine hotel. There are also some fantastic B&Bs around, ask your PH. 2. Millers Grill for steaks, Cascais for Portgeuse chicken (cheap and cheerful but fantastic chicken. 2a. Bars - Paddys at Borrowdake Brook. 3. Shopping at Sam Levies Village. Should find it all there. For curios Newlands shopping centre. While you at Newlands pop into Hunters Paradise. If you are in Harare over the weekend you can go to the ranges and fire off any excess ammo. Not a lot to do in Harare really besides eat and drink.

Have said it before will say it again ANY AR members coming through Harare and overnightin are welcome to a bed and meal (and several drinks) at Casa De Frosty. Plenty of room for all .....just let us know what you drink before hand so we can top up. Seriously though we have a very comfortable clean place where our own clients regularly overnight. Pool , pub and braai anyone????
