There is no requirement to bring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test if you are traveling from the United States to Spain. However, this may change with short notice, so be sure to review this information as close as possible to your travel date. This applies to U.S. citizens travelling to Spain from the United States, including if they transit through a third country. U.S. citizens who are travelling to Spain from a country that is not the United States should make sure they follow the guidance published by Spanish authorities on their local Spain Embassy website. Please be aware that travel immediately following this change may involve extensive wait times upon arrival as implementation is rolled out.. Restrictions related to COVID-19 remain in effect throughout Spain and vary widely by region. U.S. citizens should carefully monitor regional governments’ websites and local press reports for more information. Ensure you are familiar with local requirements prior to traveling between regions in Spain and remember to follow the instructions of local authorities. Not doing so could result in fines or arrest. The most common restrictions in Spain include: Using a facemask covering your mouth and nose in any public closed spaces. Using a facemask outdoors if there is less than 1.5 meters of physical distance between individuals. Public or private gatherings limited to six people. Limited capacity in religious facilities, funeral homes, shops, restaurants, and bars. COVID-19 Testing Are PCR and/or antigen tests available for U.S. citizens in Spain? S. citizens can obtain a COVID-19 test in Spain for free if prescribed by a public health doctor, or by paying an average of €120 if they obtain the test from a private medical facility, such as those on the Covid Testing Locations list Results are typically provided by email, but an original signed results record will be provided upon request. COVID-19 Vaccine Information Are vaccines available in Spain for U.S. citizens to receive? Yes. Which vaccines are available in Spain? Spain is administering Pfizer/BioNtech, Moderna, Oxford/AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccines. According to the government of Spain, vaccines are being facilitated through the public healthcare system, in four phases. The United States government does not plan to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to private U.S. citizens overseas. Please follow host country developments and guidelines for COVID-19 vaccination. COVID-19 Testing Waivers for travel to U.S. Waivers to the testing requirement may be granted by the CDC on an extremely limited basis when extraordinary emergency travel (like an emergency medical evacuation) must occur to preserve someone’s health and safety, and testing cannot be completed before travel. There are no waivers available for individuals who test positive for COVID-19. Individuals – or air carriers seeking to allow boarding by potentially qualifying individuals – who believe they meet the criteria for a waiver should e-email the U.S. Embassy in Madrid at spaincdcwaivers@state.gov. The U.S. Embassy will then submit the request to the CDC for consideration. Entry and Exit Requirements: SPAIN Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? Starting January 26, 2021, all travelers (age 2 and older) including U.S. citizens and residents, will be required to present a negative viral COVID-19 test taken within 3 days prior to departure on their U.S.-bound flight itinerary. Transportation Options Are commercial flights operating? Yes Limited commercial options to return to the United States from Spain are available, although flight cancellations are frequent. Work with your airline directly to re-book your flight or obtain a refund. While limited direct flights between Spain and the United States exist, U.S. citizens may have to transit through a third country to reach the United States. Yes A mask covering your mouth and nose is mandatory while using public transportation. Fines for Non-Compliance Non-compliance may result in arrest and in fines that range between 60€ to 60,000€ depending on the gravity of the violation.
