I believe I have read on past threads that it is not possible to return from ZIM via Joberg with ammo. You have to leave it with your Safari Company due to laws in S. Africa. Am I correct on this topic or did I miss interpret that dialog?

I am no expert but I am fairly certain that what you say is not correct. For sure you will hear from more sources than me.

No - not correct unless they have changed rules since last September.

That's not correct. I returned last year with ammo from Zim thrugh Joberg with no problems. Last year there was quite a bit of talk about SAA requiring that ammo be packed in a separate lockable container. I put my ammo in a small lockable box then put that box in my duffel bag both ways with no problems either way. I've heard that the airline made some hunters, who were hunting in RSA and flying back from Joberg check their ammo separately. In fact I saw some small ammo boxes come off with luggage at Dulles. This apparently only happens when your flight originates in RSA.

Best bet would be to give SAA a call and discuss it directly with them. Also, see if you can find anything on their website and if so print out the regs and take them with you. I know SAA doesn't permit ammo to be placed in your gun case.

When I checked in at Dulles the TSA folks who were inspecting my guns and ammo asked my why I didn't just pack my ammo in my gun case. I had to tell them about SAA's policy re: no ammo in the gun case.
