Stossel on Traveling with Firearms
I had the assholes at TSA try to set me up on this in May at LAX. I refused their request for the ammo to be in the same container with the firearm. They finely let it go.

I have flown out of JFK several times to Africa with firearms. Other AR members have done so as well Never had a problem. Might be that I was flying with rifles and not handguns. Check in with SAA and they call the NY Port Authority police who want to see that the guns are unloaded. Funny thing is you do this right in the middle of the airport. Just lay you gun case on the floor, take the rifles out and show them that they are unloaded. Once this is done they walk with you to TSA where you check in the guns then off to the boarding area.

On with way back no involvement with the police. Just go through customs and be on your way.

They had me do the same thing in JFK? I laid the gun case on the floor right in the middle of the Airport and pulled out two scoped rifles!!! I asked the Cop if it Legal? He said yes!!!

TSA's rules sometimes conflict with those of foreign airlines.

I always copy the TSA's current rules and those of each airline I will be flying and have the hard copies with me. Then I can pull them out if I run into conflicting requests from the staff.

When they were checking my rifles as I was getting on a domestic commercial flight in Tanzania, they asked me to load one of my rifles. I was sure this was a trick, but I was traveling with my PH and he assured me they really wanted me to chamber a round in the Dar es Salaam airport. That was the strangest "traveling with firearms" experience I've had.

That is weird. What'S next..having you fire a couple of rounds at a target to ensure you can shoot the thing accurately. LOL
