I just completed my round trip flight from Boise to Johannesburg. I found the seats on the Boeing 767 to be more comfortable than those I experienced on the SAA airbus. I am 5'10" and weigh a chubby 200 lb. I had about 6 inches of room in front of my knees and a couple of inches of space on both sides of my butt. The food was good, the flight attendants were polite, competent and really stayed on the ball. The ticket counter personel were very good in Boise and in Joburg. Each seat has a movie screen in front of it. My rifles and luggage showed up where I did at the same time I did. I purchased my tickets for the high season time period and paid a total of $2138 for the round trip. We wasted an hour and half of my life in Dakar while they refueled, searched for bombs, and sprayed mosquitos. I guess as long as they put enough fuel in to finish the trip, it was a necessary stop. All in all, I found Delta's competence, service, and comfort far superior to SAA.

Thanks for the update,, I make the trip out of Atlanta to Jobergh on Friday. My last trip was on the Airbus beast. It is a real bummer stopping in Dafur with the refueling and getting sprayed down but I do like having plenty of fuel. The bad part is being really worn out about then and knowing you got another 9 hours to go! My bags are packed and ready for Friday to start the next adventure.

We did the MCO-ATL-JNB in June also had a good trip. We where actually 30 mins early arriving in JNB and 15 mins early to MCO on return.
We went BE which is nice, not as nice seats as SAA.

Funny thing they did not spray for bugs in BE.

We did the Delta flight out of Atlanta to JHB, in July. I echo the above, and give Delta 2 thumbs up for their sevice. Everything was on time, no issues with ticket agents, TSA, Customs, or the SA police. Everything went perfect from beginning to end. Our flights were even on time or ahead of schedule. If I ever get the chance to go back, it will be Delta all the way!

Man, you guys are giving me a warm and fuzzy feeling! We'll be doing the ATL-JHB thing on Sep 4. I'm very relieved to hear good things about the Delta flight!

Yep, I also did the LFT to ATL to JNB in July on Delta. Everything was smooth. The Boeing equipment was comfortable (for an airline), with movie screens in the headrest ahead of you, food was good. On the way back we were 30 minutes early.

Everyone posts the negative. But no one mentions the thousands that have good trips and experiences. Hell even the SAP's in Joburg took only 5 min. And we where not murdered on our way to Afton house.

tradewinds, I gotta agree. Maybe just luck, that my only trip went so well, but sometimes I wonder about some of the negative posts, if it isn't as much the fault of the poster, as the people he is blaming. Please and thank you go a long way, as well as patience and a smile. There are a lot of self absorbed pompous asses in this ole world Wink

I flew Delta and was definitely more comfortable than on SAA's airbus. I say this in spite of 2 problems.

1. Flight over: fat woman spilling over into my seat. Couldn't even get armrest down.
2. Flight back: suffering from tick bite fever

It's good to hear that you had a pleasant experince with Delta -- I'll be flying them from Orlando to Jo'burg the 1st of October and you've helped my optimism level move up a notch or two. Of course, I'll have another SAA flight followed by a couple of legs in a bush plane, but my experience has always been good once I get on the African continent. Except for the time that we had to land a charter plane at three different airports before we collected sufficient fuel to get back to base camp, that is. LOL
