If you are flying through Johanesburg to Harare do you need to get any rifle permits or do your bags stay on the airline if you are catching a flight out?
I know you have to get one if you stay the night but am confused as to information that I have received on what we do if we are not staying there. Do we pick up our bags and continue to next airline? Although I know the process of ending the hunt in RSA have never flown through to another destination. Not a frequent flyer so any help will be great. I have not gotten an answer from my travel agent yet and fly out on the 4th of June.

Last year I flew into Jo'burg, caught a connecting flight out that same day to Harare. I did not claim my bags and did not go through any permitting in South Africa. My understanding and experience is that so long as you are just connecting out of Jo'burg you check everything all the way trhough to Harare and do not need any South African permits, do not need to clear Customs, etc. I plan to do the same thing this year in two weeks. We leave here on June 2.

Great that was what I was hoping to hear. I believe I am booked straight through and with SAA.
I was just notified by Annelise that she is sending out my tickets and info so I should get anything else I need there.

Can I ask where you will be?

If you are staying on the same airline and check your bags through to Zim you should be okay, just stay in the international transit part of the airport. If you are changing airlines be sure they have a baggage agreement and you can check your luggage all the way through.

Are you using a travel agent? They should be able to tell you.
