Deet or Picaridin for Ticks
Ok, looking for some input. Which is better to fend off African ticks? Deet or Picaridin? I have Avon Skin So soft with Picaridin and also have Deet. I really don't want use both, but I sure don't want to get Tick Bite Fever again.

I plan to treat hunting clothes also, but need something for exposed skin.

Thanks Everyone.
Will

The Avon skin so soft worked great. Wore deet one day and that’s only day I got bit.

Use permethrin, Will, bought at REI and put only repeat only on clothing and let dry before wearing. Works in Natal with the pepper ticks.

W: Best tick preventative is permethrin. You can buy a 10% concentrate at a feed store because it is used on horses. Way less expensive than out door stores. Wear rubber gloves and mix 5.5 oz. of permethrin per gallon of water in a plastic bin. Fully immerse your pants and shirts in the solution and hang clothes outside to dry. Once dry it is safe to wear but crawling insects die after crossing about 8" of treated cloth. Military BDUs are made from permethrin treated fabric. Because topical treated cloth is less effective than clothing with treated fabric the effectiveness is good for about 6 washings. Of course that is normal washings not African washings.
Be careful disposing the remaining solution. It will kill off insects, fish, amphibians, etc. in ponds.

Agree with everyone above on using Permethrin. I buy the spray bottles to treat all my clothing before I go and bring the cream for exposed skin while I'm there.
