Just got my e-ticket along with some travel info regarding my upcoming British Airways flight from LAX via London on to Johannesburg. It appears that British AIrways is now allowing only one piece of hand luggage. Does anyone have any recent experience? I will be traveling business class and wanted to take a back pack as well as a briefcase type purse??? Thanks for any help, D. Nelson

I had only one bag, I was travelling world traveller plus, at heathrow coming home I had some books and a bottle of duty free booze and I had to put them in my backpack. I'm not sure it's a BA rule as much as it may be the airport authority. Call them I found them very helpful.

I was recently on that route. I had a backpack and breifcase as you are planning. At my initial check in Seattle they gave me some static about it and I used a couple of straps that I keep on the pack for such an event to attach the breifcase to the pack. It was then oversize but that seemed to be OK. All this while many women were traveling with a carry-on AND a humungous purse! Sexual discrimination! You might consider getting a couple of these straps at any backpack supply type retail place. Immediatly after clearing that check I separated them and had no trouble boarding. Best of luck on your trip.

I was in Heathrow on june 30 and again on july 11, both times the security was constantly stopping people who had more than one carry on item, and no oversize was allowed if it didn't fit into their sizeing cage ( I don't know what else to call it ) it didn't board. It was a real hassle for those who were transferring from a different airline with different rules. ax meat is murder..... tasty, tasty murder

I was LHR on July 26. One bag is all any they were strict on size. I had to rearage my backpack to make size restriction. They had several people along the corordore before the security checkpoint making sure everone had just one bag and all liquids were in clea plastic bag with nothing over 100 ml. If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness." - Alberta Provincial Court Judge Demetrick

Thanks for all the info.... I now believe it... I'll take one carry-on!!!! FYI--I did contact British Airways. They told me I could take 2 from LAX to London, but only 1 from London to Jo'burg.... So, in other words, ONE! Regards, D. Nelson
