Rifles case count as bagage
I know this might be a stupid question, but I haven't traveled by air with a long gun in a while. Also the airline info is a bit confusing.
I'm flying Emirates and South Africa Air in a couple weeks and have all my docs in order ( thanks Kathi), but I can't see if the rifle case counts as part of my 2 piece baggage allowance.
Thanks in advance.

chuckmaxmanYour rifle case does count as part of your luggage. You can have one suitcase and your rifle case. This could be different if you are traveling business or First class.
I think it does.
Anything that goes in the hold is weighed, and I think counts against your weight allowance.
Better make sure before any nasty surprises at the airport.
Depends on if the airline counts it as sporting goods or general baggage.
From memory Qantas and Emirates count it as part of your allowance, Air NZ and SAA (used to?) treat it as sporting goods.

shotgun46on Emirates in coach it does . They also weigh your carry on should not exceed allowed amount
Thanks everyone. I am flying business, but I think I'll call them and try to get an answer. I'll keep you posted.

BushchookI flew SAA in October to and from Windhoek via Jo'burg. Our rifles didn't count as baggage.
Talked to Emirates and long guns in case do not count toward the baggage limit.
Thanks everyone
