Hi guys,

Im off for a 16 day Safari in Zambia with the Mrs and my son. Our charter is arranged for the next day so my family can have a day's rest.

I was wondering if someone can advise about a nice hotel or lodge to stay the night in, some place which is a must visit if in Lusaka, but safe and luxurious as am travelling with my family.

Thanks.

It is alright but out of town. If you are spending a few days then your son will enjoy it.

Pir let me know when you are in town and if you would like we could meet up?

Best

You will wnjoy the Taj in Lusaka. The Wasabi Shrimp at the grill is worth the trip. Check with you doctor about malarone for you son.

Good luck.

I have hunted Zambia about 4 times, and mostly had to overnight either before we head to the bush or on the the way out. All of the places have been very positive. I would highly recommend Chaminuka. It is a game ranch about 45 min from Downtown, or about 30 min from the airport. By African standards, it's a solid 4 star place. the chalets are very nice and the restaurant is one of the best in all the places I have been to in africa. It's been about 5 years since we were there. The only negative is that it is out of town. You miss any third world big city experiences. The best thing, is that is is not in the city... My last trip the year before last , my outfitter set me up in a place at a little lodge in the middle of a nice Lusaka residential neighborhood. It was called the Kingfisher lodge. The place was cheap, quiet, and in need of some updating. They have an restaurant, however, I didn't eat there. They had a big Indian wedding there one night. The other hotel I stayed at in the past and liked, was the Southern Sun Ridgewy. Very nice, good restaurant. It's Lusaka's place to be seen. A lot of locals hang there. I thought it was a little over priced. I also, have stayed at the Southern Sun ( a African chain) in Maputo, Moz. That place was way over-priced for what you got. Lastly, some fellow hunters stayed at the Protea Hotel. They said it was a nice place. It is in a good location, right by the shopping center that has the best restaurant in Lusaka, called Dazzle (? I think) This is where the elite meet to eat, therefore, it is the social center of Lusaka. Enjoy Zambia, my favorite African country.

There are at least two Protea Hotels in Lusaka, but I would avoid the Cairo Road location. I stay at the Protea Hotel next to the Arcades shopping mall. The restaurant at the mall that many go to is Rhapsody's. Being next to the mall is convenient when I am there on business, but if I were to be in Lusaka for some other reason and wanted to avoid downtown I would stay at Chaminuka, just to have some animals around.

I'd second the recommendation for the Protea next to the Arcades. The wife and I stayed there last year on Andrew's recommendation prior to our hunt with him.
