A question for the more seasoned safari goers...
Two of us are off for Namibia soon. One of us has a double gun Cabela´s riflecase made of aluminum. We are flying with Emirates, BA and SAA. You think putting both of our guns in the same case can cause a confusion/problem assuming paperwork is in order?

No problem - Put wife and I's rifle in same case going over once, have put two of mine in same case every trip.

You may want to use two cases though, if one gets sidetracked, there is an OK chance the other will arrive intact. You carry some of his ammo and he carrys some of yours also.

If the firearms are registered to different owners and packed in the same case I would expect that you are asking for problems.

MikeE's comments are excellent as far as splitting rifles and ammo goes.

I don't know if you have planned on checking firearms through as you are flying Emirates, BA, and SAA. Not sure which legs are which but if you are transiting London make sure you know what the rules regarding interline baggage transfer are with firearms.

Your location says Iceland and I have no idea what permits or licenses are required to own a firearm in Iceland but I would avoid a situation with firearms where there are two differently registered firearms in luggage registered to only one person. Two firearms cases are probably the best option.

If the final leg is South Africa to Namibia on SAA you should plan on clearing your firearms in South Africa prior to the flight to Namibia.

I'd also suggest printing out copies of the various airlines' firearms policies and having the hard copies with you while traveling.

The firearms at the end of the day will prove to be a relatively minor logistical issue, just check the regulatory boxes and enjoy your hunt.

Went to Namibia one gun case 2 guns one registered to me and one registered to my wife. (When we had the gun registry)Put the paper work in the case no problems. But I like the idea of two gun cases incase one goes missing

We always travel with two guns in one case but we just do paperwork under one name...less confusion that way.

No problem at all to travel with 2 guns in 1 case, even if owned by different hunters. Done it many times. Also, very good advice to split the ammo as I do that as well.

If transiting RSA to Namibia, best to get a connecting flight in order to bypass clearing guns in JoBerg. Have the papers necessary to clear in JoBerg in case the flight cancels, but it's so much nicer to just stay in transit if you can schedule the flights to do so.

I've only made three trips, but each time I put two rifles in one big aluminum case. Zimbabwe once, and RSA twice.

No issues.

This year I will travel to Namibia on SAA, JFK / JBG/ WHK and with SAA all the way. No layover in Jbg. as shuttle flight to Whk.leaves the same morning as arrival for a LONG but relatively seamless day of flying. SAA flights eliminate the Air Namibia $50 guncase surcharge Jbg-Whk that AN would charge. I plan to check luggage all the way through to Windhoek so as baggage (and guns)
will be "in transit" no SAPS permit in Jbg. At least that is my plan ! Hopefully all will go as planned ! I have my fingers crossed...

You should have no problems flying all the way on SAA. Sometimes problems can arise when switching between airlines.

For Adventura: I'm assuming that your itinerary is Iceland to London on BA then London to Joberg on Emirates. I'd suggest confirming that BA will check firearms through on Emirates as they are not in the same alliance.
