nickhZim $1000US restriction
Just got back from Zim a week ago.
Had heard about the currency crisis and the issue with leaving with more than $1000us
We brought in quite some currency at the request of the outfitter.
I wasn't wanting to declare such a sum.
My intention was to leave most of it to cover trophies, video etc,and leave with $500.
This is what we did.
On entry we didn't nominate the amount of currency, just the type of currency we had being US and Rand.
On the departure leg at check in and inspection of firearms I was asked how much cash I had on me.
I said $500 and the lady was satisfied with that. Didn't ask to see it.
The situation in Zim is worrying, bond notes were about to be issued this week I believe.
All we can do is help the operators as best we can. If they say bring in cash, bring in as much as you are comfortable with, but expect to leave with only a few hundred.

WSJ had a story about Zim yesterday; they mentioned the $1 kilobuck limit.

larryshoresYou can take out all you want provided you brought it in with you and declared it upon arrival.
When I left in September, they asked me how much I had. My response was I had a hell of a lot less than I came with. They laughed and I went on my way.

For what it is worth, when I entered zim on July 10 of this year I filled out the declaration form and was specifically told the new law was to help Zim's economy to bring in new cash to the market. I was expected to spend and anything over $1000 would be confiscated upon my departure on July 28.

You are 100% correct mate! If you can prove you brought it in you can take it out again.
I was just not wanting to show them the amount of $Us we were carrying! I was worried that they would shake us down for a " backhander" and as we were intending on leaving most of it, we took the gamble, and all was good!
I think hunters need to be aware of this , so there are no dramas when trying to leave.

BuffHunter63In Sep I declared $9K USD and left with about $2k, didn't have any issues. I flew in through Bulawayo however.
With the new limitations, I think hunters need to make sure they can book with an outfitter that will allow payment via wire transfer after the hunt, or accept some other payment arrangement.
I never liked the idea of traveling through Africa with $10s of thousands of USDs on my person.
Seems like African governments just make things harder and more complicated every year for the sport hunter. Must drive the outfitters crazy as well.
