Al Mourjan Business Lounge is where I usually hang my hat when I've got some time to kill. The Oryx Hotel is also very clean and quiet and not far from the lounge.

Thanks! I was hoping recommendations on restaurants or anything to do in the airport. I arrive midday and allthough Spanish are well known for their siestas I would rather get to know the airport

I have stayed at Oryx and business lounge. For 8 hours, I would probably look around at the high end shops and then shower/nap at business lounge.

I just had a 8 hour layover there, but can’t add much except my experience. I was looking for a place to get a few hours sleep and two lounges were for first class passengers only. My work got extended, so 1st class and business seats were already booked. I was dragging ass and sleeping near the gate was impossible. One: the chairs all had arm rest. Two: the airport was extremely busy for the overnight hours. You would have thought it was holiday travel in the US. One of the lounge staff pointed me to “Sleeps Inn” if I remember it correctly. They have little sleeping pods (and ones with showers) that charge by the hour. Got a few hours of sleep before the 14.5 hour flight back to the US.

I was going to eat at Harrods in the airport, but the wait was too long.

Last was my experience at the Duty Free. Was looking at a wide selection of Scotch. Was unsure of which bottle to get and one of the attendants came over to help me. He proceeded to read the description on the back of two boxes. I said to myself “Thanks genius. I could have done that myself.”

The regular QA business class lounge is huge and extremely nice. Full bar and sit down restaurant as well as a buffet. Showers and plenty of places to nap on a couch. It’s free with a business ticket and $50 to anyone else, IIRC. The airport stores are very upscale- think Cartier, Rolex, Burberry, Armani, etc. Don’t know about restaurants since the food was so good and free in the lounge.

There are 2 business lounges in Doha, one for QA business passengers and one called the Al Majoram(sp?) lounge for anyone who wants to pay.

Arabic is a proper language.

We don’t have double letters or hidden unpronounceable parts of the world.
