Kathi - or others. have just had a very pleasant flight on ethiopian airways...Not an airline I would have ever considered before but I happened to know the captain (we were at school together in Zim) and as it turned out, my wife had taught the first officer. New 777, good crew, good plane, great graze (compared to SAA - I think their recent offering on the flight to the USA was worse than I ever remember getting at boarding school), and best of all, no kit (including my handguns) got lost. As a way of getting into Harare without having to go via SA.... I appreciate their schedules are not as frequent as SAA but just an idea? No idea as to their costings either- I didn't pay for the flight, ( oh and their air hostesses were not up to Emerates standard... )

Ethiopian had great connections from Washington to Harare on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays returning with great connections on Tuesday, Friday and Saturdays. Fare are pretty much in line with most of the other airlines. The only problem one would have - if it is a problem - is that if you are coming from most any other city in the US you would have to overnight at Dulles Airport to make the onward connection to Addis as the flight departs at 1005am! Hope this helps Steve

I flew Ethiopian several times in and out of Addis during the late 80's and early 90's. They have well trained crews and excellent maintenance. That's the only African carrier I would board.

When Boing closed their Harare office (about 1994) they moved half the staf to Addis and the rest to SA. Bob Aman was their main man in Harare and as far as I know he is still hunting in Ethiopia (He never did seem to spend any time looking at aircraft , even here!)
