The Namibian police prefer that you fill out your " Gun permit application " scan it and email it to them along with arrival time and flight details. They will have all the paperwork filled out. All they do is check serial numbers and you are on your way!

I did that on my trip last month, they had a copy of my permit, checked the serial number and away I went. Didn't take 5 min. So easy, no hassle, worked great.

Just on my way home from Namibia now. Got my permit at Windhoek without emailing the application first. Took only 5 minutes but got lucky possibly as it looked like I was the first hunter into the police office. Several flights arrived simultaneously and the hunters were obvious. Did get asked for "lunch money" !)

I hunted in Namibia in late May. My PH met me as I exited customs and we walked to the gun counter. It was a breeze. I had filled out the form and brought it with me. A quick check of the serial #'s and I was on my way. Nobody tried to shake me down for some $$.

If they weren't so corrupt the SAPS folks could learn a lot from Namibia.

Nothing to report! Another dry run!

The email system is an improvement, even though gun entry into Namibia has always been relatively quick and easy. Prior to the email system we were advised to pre-fill our forms and have the ready. This served us well as there were dozens of hunters on our flight and most had to stop and fill out their forms prior to clearing the gun room. We just walked up to the front of the line and handed our pre-filled forms to the very friendly officer who processed us right away.

The slower part was going through passport control where a handful of older (and thick-skinned) tourists insisted in attempting to line-jump, and feigned not understanding any language they were addressed in when called out on their transgression.

When you email the paperwork ahead of time do they send you an acknowledgement to say that they have received it?

They didn't me. I made a copy of the form incase they didn't get it but everything was in order.

Nothing against German's but two years ago when getting our gun permit , these two guys jumped in front of us. Neither one of them had paper work filled out no serial numbers or round count. They would not allow us to move ahead of them and insisted they be allowed to fill out their paperwork. Spent a extra 20-25 minutes while they dicked around!

Sounds very European.

Were they 10 plus years older looking than your group?

German Omas and Opas regularly cut me off at the store.

Happened a hell of a lot more often in Italy and Spain.
