Be prepared for them to cut it open and go thru it. If they cut locks off of checked luggage, they will cut open the box.

Yes, they will definitely cut open a taped box....and leave you a little card inside saying they did so. Other than carry-on, I'm thinking that your only other option is putting them in your checked bags secured with TSA accessible locks.

They will most likely cut it open.

They will even cut open taped up or factory sealed boxes in suitcases and dufffel bags.

I pack a lot of items in one of those translucent water tight bags. That wat TSA can lood through the bags and tell what the "hard" things in them are.

Do not put any valuables in your checked baggage.

I carry expensive stuff in my carry on, and the stuff that is not allowed in my carry on I put in the Tuffpak with the rifle, and I have the only key.

TSA had big notices at Christmas time about NOT carrying ANY taped gifts either in your checked or carry on baggage. They said all taped items would be opened.

For what it is worth, every package-box-cooler-etc. I have ever had opened by TSA or U.S. Customs agents has been expertly taped back up with their own easily identified packaging tape.

I don't think that is really an issue. I do, however, think is is foolish to include something which you know they will be forced to open.

Whatever you do, DO NOT put anything of value - like cameras for instance - in your checked bags to any African country.

You will most likely loose them while they are in transit.

Anything like this should be carried in your carry bag.

Seconded on the checked baggage.

At least three of our party of six had bags rifled in transit. One being unlocked (combination) and then resealed! This was on the return leg from Windhoek.
