It's been years since I over'nighted in SA, are these the current procedures? This is per the PHASA website: http://www.phasa.co.za/index.p...e&id=136&Itemid=34#6 The reason I ask is it looks like this differs from the info provided by the Afton House / VIP, and I am trying to not bother Annelise at this difficult time. I gotta say, this SAPS paperwork/process is a real PITA! Thank you! | ||

It's changed. You no longer identify and log your gun case in baggage claim. They automatically take any case that looks like it contains a firearm, to the SAPS office. They won't let you touch the case in baggage claim. After you clear customs, you go to the office and do the permit thing. What hasn't changed: you can do the permit on arrival (it helps to have photocopies of all the required documents, eg 4457s, passport, ticket, invite letter, so they don't have to make copies), or you can have someone do it in advance for $100-$150. Black ink only.
