I have a ticket booked for a flight from San Francisco to Harare on Lufthansa. I will be going through Munich on the arrival flight.

I know I need to collect my guns in Johannesburg and recheck them for the last leg.

My flight arrives at 8:20a.m. How much time is recommended for getting the next flight? There is a 10:40, 12:20, and 2:15 flight. The 12:20 flight is British Airways and the other two are SAA. I think the 10:40 is too close and the 12:20 with BA might be a problem with guns.

I am also thinking about purchasing this as a 1 way ticket because my return leg avoids Europe. I would use a meet and greet service to get my SAPS paperwork.

Does anyone see any problems with this? I am open to any suggestions. I have tried contacting 4 different travel agents that specialize in African travel and none want to be bothered with this even after offering to pay their service charges.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,

I've worked with an talked to Gracy, Air 2000 and Rifle Permits about the best ways to transit O.R. Tembo and they all agree that to be safe you need about 3 hours between your flights. I'd take the 2:15 SAA.

In the future I'd let Gracy, Kathi or Doug Turner handle the travel. Much less hassle that way.

Mark

If you are getting some sort of SAPS permit[do you really need to?] then two hourstwenty mins. is too short-maybe. If you have permits arranged and good meet/greet services included, you might get it done, and the wait for the afternoon flight is not too,too bad if you miss the 10:40. [of course you may need to "encourage" the JNB Firearms security guys to get your guns onto the quick connection!]

Also, is the BA flight to Harare really BA or their contractor - ComAir [?] Do the same firearm rules apply with them?

Oops, well, Mark is right of course.

Three hours is better/best.

If you need to wait at JNB the Premier Lounge on the Mezzanine Level is not a bad place to hang out. Quiet usually and away from the crowd.

I want to thank everyone for the quick responses. Helps put my mind at ease for a smooth trip. Looks like I will book the late flight and use Air2000 to help clear guns.

Thanks,

Greg
